Anyone know if starting my trucking career with TransAm on their autoshifts will prevent future employers from hiring me? Thanks for your advice.

Why would it? Driving a stick isn't that hard. Isn't that what you learned on at driving school?

In school we didn't drive in all types of locations (mountains) or different types of weather. So I would think an employer looking for 1 year otr experience would prefer that experience to be on a standard if that's what they use.

Driving a manual is like learning to ride a bike. You may get a little rusty for the first minute, but it comes back to you very quickly. The bigger experience is the actual DRIVING experience and getting familiar with the areas.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you can pass a Road Test in a Standard.

It may not hurt your chances of getting hired with another company but you may have to go thru training again to learn the manual so keep that in mind. Also if you do go with another company later on down the road that require exp,you better know how to up and downshift a 10 speed on their road tests otherwise they'll disqualify you.

Yes..It can hurt your chances... If you go Transam and drive and decide to quit and go somewhere else for a local type gig.. and all they have is manual... and you grind gears can't shift you won't get that job..

Also driving a manual is not like riding a bike.. a bike is not going to cost 3k to replace a stripped out gear on the chain drive.. Good luck in your travels.
