Suck it up dude. It's life. Serving in the armed forces is voluntary and commendable..Doesnt mean people have to roll the red carpet out for ya. I mean its nice to know you are appreciated, but if not, just the pride of knowing you did something only about 1% of americans have done is enough.

I served my country too, but I dont go broadcasting it..Been in the thick of #### in Ramadi iraq and helmand province in afg.. youll be alright bro

I did a four-year commitment in the navy myself. During my interview, the only thing the company man asked me about my service was "did your job in the navy have anything to do with driving trucks?" Once I told him no, nothing else was asked or mentioned about it.

Im proud, but I'm not looking for a pat on the back for it. I joined partly for the experience, but mostly to get out of working in the cotton fields of North Mississippi. My grandfather, who by the way swam ashore at Omaha beach on D-day, told me that people aren't remembered for their accomplishments. They are remembered by how those accomplishments affected other people.

Be proud of your service and don't take it personal when some skirt in an office who never served seems indifferent to your record.

In my time since I got out I have only found one employer that valued my Service. He was a custom gun builder who hired me as a gunsmith. Best boss I have ever had, unfortunately, I had to relocate.

In my experience, the only companies that like veterans are ones who get tax incentives to hire or train them.

I really don't care either way. I personally don't like the dumb questions civilians ask: "Do you know my cousins wife's brother's nephew? He was in the Army too, something hush hush, he was stationed at Ft. Belvior" etc. Or "What do you think about the reasons we went to war?" etc.

I don't ask these civilians questions about what it was like to be a pansy, so I don't see why they need to ask me a million questions lol. (No, I am not calling all civilians pansies, just the ones who ask me how many people I have killed etc.)

If companies truly are Veteran friendly, I will support them wholeheartedly, but I won't hold my breath looking for one, I know what I have done, and that is recognition enough for me personally.

I was in the Navy before Political Correctness took over. I was in a few bar brawls in Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong; Japan, does that count? Only came close to losing one really big brawl, but spraying a fire extinguisher saved me; except, it melted the naugauyde on the bar stools; had some type of acid mix in it. My XO comshawed some money out of the R&R fund and paid the damages; but later he got busted in Sasebo for throwing a beer bottle through a mirror at the Officers Club. Can't do that stuff now or you get life with no parole. I never mention this in job interviews.

To me a military member is on active duty . You said you have an "Honorable release " .
You have 8 years trucking experience . Why are you even applying to a carrier like FFE ? If you were a recently discharged veteran with no experience and wanted your DD214 to be recognized you could go to a carrier like Swift and get free tuition for training - with a one year commitment .
If you want your service to be a factor in hiring apply for a civil service job .

Why don't you apply for Merchant Seaman with the Military Sealift Command. Being a Navy veteran you can join as Oridnary Seaman with no exams. They will train you OJT. You will need TWIC.

Seriously? You carry your 214 around with you and when someone doesn't fawn over your service that makes them anti-military? Grow some, my friend.

First I will say you have no clue what she meant by the way she said anything. I know my drivers sometimes think I'm mad at them because of my tone or I'm short. Im not mad I either have a lot of things to do that day so I don't sit around and BS with them like I usually would or I have fifty million things running through my mind so I'm short. A tone of voice shows nothing about a person you have to figure she was probably wanting to get you finished and move to the next sucker that wants a job at FFE.

Second and I will put a warning label on this I'm not trying to be a butt just putting it bluntly. Are you trying to seek recognition for your military service? If you are why? I have never understood why anyone would try to gain respect because they served in the military. You earn respect it isn't given. I don't ask for any military records unless it is in your ten year work history. I do not ask if you served in the military. Frankly I don't care if you were or were not it doesn't make you a better driver. It does not give you brownie points. You can be proud of yourself serving without flaunting it. Show it by your actions not a piece of paper. I have no clue what your MOS was but unless it was truck driving or a mechanic it doesn't matter. Suck it up and drive on you can't expect people to get all gitty if you tell them you were in the Navy. Before you jump to conclusions about me I served in the Army but I don't go around flaunting it. I deserve no respect for it the ones we left behind deserve the respect.
