If I don't i am scared I will miss that 500 pound driver walking across the lot in his pajama bottoms ragged greasy T-Shirt and flip flops. Just saying I would not feel I could rest if i did not see that at least once before I went to bed....

 

This is absolutely true. Back into a spot at the Petro in West Memphis. I'd love to just be able to sleep but depending on the time of day, I'm trying to be alert to guard life,limb,and property. I might as well entertain myself while doing it. There are some sure enough characters in that poop-hole. Treat your windshield as a tv screen and watch The KLLM employee of the month walking through the lot in a wife-beater tee shirt and tighty-whitey drawers. He doesn't wash his clothes, he just turns everything inside-and gets another 2000 miles out of them.

 

having my fender mirrors knocked off twice and being awakened by a truck on my pass side mirror and abdul knocking on my door to move,I wait for trucks to be parked beside me.those mirrors arent cheap

 

I helped a trainee team with Stevens get into a spot at the Love's in Rockwall, TX a couple of weeks ago. If somebody is in a bad spot, I will help.

I'm all for helping folks out. I have done it in the past and will again in the future whenever some needs it. But what does it say about Stevens when neither driver on a two man truck can get backed into a hole, student or not? Now that im thinking about it, What does it say about the trainer?

yep, spent the night at the one on I-80 last summer, parked about 10 pm, after almost getting into a fight. Swung out and perfectly setup to back in to a spot, bobtail tried to squirt in, gave him a choice, move or I would just push him back into the fence. He realized he was wrong (maybe the crowbar in my hand helped convince him) and moved. Then sat and watched the show while doing my paperwork....wow

 

I'm certainly guilty of sitting and staring out the window after I'm parked. As others have noted, some of it is watching for trucks to fill the spots next to you (self preservation, I'd like to leave with my hood intact). If it's been a rough day, I'm probably just zoning out, maybe listening to music.

 

Well I for one have spent spent plenty of time staring out that same window I look out all day long too. I havent been driving for very long so I would always look for the "easy" parking spots and if there were only a few "hard" spots I would leave. If I got there early enough I would and still wiill watch people. I would analize how some of these guys could actually place that big rig into a very tight park. After some lessons being leaned just by watching and trying I dont have to leave the truckstop anymore, I may have to get out of my truck a couple of times and look.. but I getter in there. So for me to sit and watch has been very educational, what to do and plenty of what not to do. Not to mention after a long day it is a good spot to unwind. Now for me to sit and stare has given me some of the greatest entertainment , with impatiant truckers, checking out some of the fattest nastiest slobs that there could possibly be, and watching other drivers that there skills make me feel good about mine.( some of these people have no business being behind the wheel ).....and yet to see a lizard. So I can see why people sit and watch . Its good stuff. But what I dont get is how some of these guys will will sit there in the dark HIDING behind there windshield and talk a bunch of smack on the cb. But what ever entertains one doesnt necessarilly do it for an other.
