Hi,
Just to get acquainted. I'm 52, married, and ready for my new career. We currently live in Reno Nv. Open to moving wherever, but leaning STRONGLY towards Texas. Ultimately wherever the work is. Children are all grown and no pets. Not even a leftover goldfish.)) Been around trucking all my life, just never took the plunge. Didn't want to be away from the wife and kids so much. Due to the economy being so "strong", I find myself being not able to find even REASONABLE paying work. Soooo, oddly enough, the wife suggested I do what I'd been avoiding for so long and getting my CDL. Hows that for irony??? Lol! So, i'm starting school on the 18th and not looking back.
I am very excited, if a 52 yr old can admit that, and looking forward to the challenge. I don't expect anything to be handed to me, I just hope I'm able to hire with the right company for us. I have driven alot of my life for work, average 75k a year so driving is a natural for me. And now the wife can come along. It has been suggested that she get her CDL too, but we're not sure she can pass the physical due to her health conditions. Had a nasty fall a few years back and has pins in her back and neck. Some say I'm that pin in her neck, or was that "pain", but anyhow, regardless she will be riding along sometimes also.
Like everyone else, I'm looking for the best situation possible, But seem to be leaning towards Flatbed or Tanker to start. Not going to a company school so I can go wherever is best for us AND the company I work for! Yes, I know that's unpopular nowadays, but I want to do the best for whoever I work for! So shoot me.))
Guess that's all for now. Send me a PM if you have any private sage advice. And I look forward to hearing and learning from you who DON'T CARE (lol) if someone hears your sage advice!
God Bless!!! And...

Schneider will train you for tanker work after you finish CDL school.
Melton Truck Lines is one of the best flatbed companies around & your wife can ride along.
Don't know if Schneider has a rider program or not.All-American82 and d o g Thank this. -
