hey all, my first post since intro

    drive a 2006 9200I with the ISX 435 engine with a 74" (?) single sleeper
just fully serviced while i was on vacation
rides nice, pulls well, 6+ mpg, eats 1 gallon oil every 4k miles

had a problem friday. tooling along pulling an empty and the red stop eng light comes on and i have zero throttle.
    no buzzer or yellow warning
pull into the shoulder and notice its still running holding the 600 idle rpm but nothing from the pedal.
all temps and pressure are good.
shut it down and in less then a minute start right up.
for a couple seconds the red light is on after start but no throttle then it kicks in.
run it for about 10 miles then same thing.
run it for about 40 miles same thing.
    call shop
    coolant level is good
    oil level is good
tells me to use criuse control to get it home. works good.
get it to a local shop and his computer doesnt pinpoint it. he thinks its egr related.
im thinking its the throttle positioning sensor on the pedal assembly.

looking for input so the mechanic doesnt start trial and error part install on monday

    thanks

The mechanic like a moron if you ask me. The accelerator pedal will either put out different voltage depending on the position. Perhaps, probe the accelerator pedal and see what values you get?

If your cruise works to accelerate your truck, and your accelerator doesn't work, what does that have to do with the EGR? Clearly, your engine is getting a signal from the cruise buttons to accelerate, but not the accelerator pedal. I'd find a more competent mechanic.

if "stop engine"lights up,engine derated itself like it supposed to.something will be stored in memory of ecm if that light came on.it may not tell you exactly what the problem is,but it will give you a starting point.your mechanic will need cummins insite to start.good luck.

Do not probe anything, if you do not know how to probe wires properly you will cause further damage that may show up later and be a nightmare to troubleshoot. There is something wrong with the pedal sensor or related wiring. Throttle position sensor faults cause the engine to idle only and set a "Stop" engine light. A common problem is the main engine/cab wire harness that runs along the back of the firewall over the rocker cover likes to rub through on the back of the rocker cover, or firewall, or through p-clamps and cause shorts or opens in the wires. I would say either this is the problem or a failed throttle position sensor.

    thanks for the replies

if it was a house or a motorcycle i'd tear right into it.
but being its not my truck im just trying to expedite the fix.

monday am ill find out what codes logged from the stop eng light and see what he suggests

then ill call the company shop and see what they suggest

my monday load is for late afternoon so i have high hopes

Taking the truck to the company shop in north jersey.
    I think its either
    1) a worn pedal stop
    2) needs a tps
    3) needs a tps overlay harness

    We'll see
