Hello everyone... Well today I started trucking school today with advanced carear institute of trucking out of Visalia Ca. and I am excited to be getting my cdl. Well I guess I should tell a little about me... I was in the navy for 9 years and I got out back in June 2012 due to down sizing. I was a f/a-18 mechanic. Well after I got out I started looking for a job in aviation and well that did not work out sooo... I decided to get my cdl and change my career to trucking. Today we took care of the sexual harassment training and drug and alcohol training that was so much fun but I guess it is important stuff to learn :) like I said once again I am excited to join the wild and crazy world of trucking and let's do this :D till next time deuces

I was at North Island for awhile as AD.
Get all your endorsements plus passport & TWIC. You can make some good bucks in trucking and don't have to settle for some of those low paying trucking jobs. Don't just apply for the companies that recruit from your school; apply at all companies you're interested in. I worked for a tanker/hazmat company that required 3 yrs. tanker experience, so they said, but hired 2 fresh CDL graduates. Those 2 guys were making $60K their first year. The key is to be prepared by having all endorsements, passport, TWIC. When those top notch companies need a driver, they need the driver right then, and can't wait while an applicant takes 2 months to get all the required endorsements. Take care & best wishes.

I want to thank all of ya... sorry its been a min sense I last got on... so week one down 19 more to go. By the time I am done with school I will be fully endorsed with tanker/hazmat/ doubles, triples. right now we are just doing class training I.E driving a big rig theory. I am also already looking at company's and doing my research and so far I am looking at Schneider, knight, and Warner. I eventually want to get out of California and get out to the east coast. California is to #### expensive to live. so this week we did extreme weather driving, night driving, speed control, and truck control. so far to me it is a lot of common sense and I cant wait to get to the hands on part of class doing pre-trip planing, log book, and walk arounds. I know their is alot to trucking and I cant wait to get on the road and get my career started again :) well yall be safe on the road and as always deuces...

Yes, flatbed is great. Melton Truck Lines is one of the best. Since you're leaving CA, think about a state that has no personal income tax; there are 9 or them.
