Why would u want to stay out for six weeks? Its not just you I have meet other drivers that do this and I think a few on this board do it. But why would you want to be in the truck that long? Training is about the only reason I can see it.

4 to 6 weeks is what i am planning on once my training is done. plan on trying to get some resets in places i have not been to while out on the road. be a trucking tourist.

Is there a minimum amount of time Millis requires OTR drivers to stay out? I'm thinking I would probably stay out 2-3 weeks at a time...maybe 4 every once in awhile. Any current drivers running similar to this or should one expect to be out for longer periods of time (especially rookies)? Thanks guys and be safe out there!

a week would be the min. and you would get 36hrs at home, but you won't make money doing a week then home for 36, won't be able to get into a groove. I do 2 weeks and 3 home, most I will do is 3 and 4 1/2 days at homeBronzeLion Thanks this.

I stay out longer to make money. Simply put, tired of hearing Millis drivers cry about not making money but want home every two weeks. Four weeks out feels like home to me, not once have i felt like i need out of this truck. I worked, 345+days a year before this 4 days off every month is like vacation. I love it out here.

Every driver is different related to time out and in. Mostly due to thier life style and family needs. Whether you stay out 2,3 or 8 weeks at a time is simply a personal preference and nothing more. I will agree that home every week or so will not allow you to make much money due to the fact your dispatcher will have to keep you close to try to get you home.
I am single and my sons live in GA so I see them often (probably more than they want) but I stay out about 4 to 6 weeks at a time especially if I have a student. I dont have a reason to go home more.
As I said - it's all about your lifestyle.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Personally I would like to be out 3 weeks at a time... Then go home! Time will tell if that's even an option!

Home every weekend and still make good money. Judging by the mileage OTR drivers post in this thread I'm right in par with what they are driving. Most weeks have been about 2500-2800 miles and a few 2900+ mile weeks. I'm not complaining with that. I love regional. No need to be out 4-8 weeks to make good money. But I can see doing it if it is a personal choice.

Does Millis give 1 1/2 days off for each week out? I thought it was 1 day but the more the merrier i guess! I don't envision myself staying out only a week at a time, I think that kind of defeats the purpose of driving OTR imo and I'm sure it would show in the paycheck as well. I understand the first year is a learning experience and building trust with the company but it is nice to know they will try and get you home when it is requested.
