I just Googled "coil well trailer" and came up with all kinds of stuff, including ones for sale.

Jfaulk99 has one but he isn't on the board anymore. From what I do know and he's told me is they have a limited use. You can only haul shotgun coils and with the well only being so long you have to watch the size of the coils. They can haul 3 coils as long as they aren't too wide.

They carry a lot of weight in the nose of the trailer. I know John had theirs stretched to 50' to get some of the weight off the front and for permit purposes.

To be honest, they are just about worthless IMO.

Les, just from doing a google search, I see that just about every picture I found was from Europe. I think it just isn't popular here because of the weight and cost to build I think. We do just fine with timbers and racks.

Thank you for the info. I was hoping you two guys would stop in here. Les, i figuerd if anyone would have any info, you would know something about them. I have seen them, but never got to actually talk to the guys using them. It makes sense of why i only see just a few or them. i guess if you were just gonna run coils on short runs back and forth in my area of ohio, it may make sense?

SHC, i remember that picture and thank you for putting that up. i was looking for it, but i couldnt remember which board that was, i was thinking john had one of those trailers. I do agree, when i haul coils in the summer, coil racks and lumber do just fine, although i do envy that guy that comes in under the coil crane, they set it in the well of his trailer, he messes around for a few minutes and hes gone. on that 102 degree day at ak steel, wearing long sleeeves and fully coverd witht that ridiculous overkill saftey ppe. lol........you get the point. Like Bo Darvel said, i do it for the money, for the glory, and for the fun......but mostly for the MONEY!.....lol.

LES, i'm being nosey here, but what happened to john? hes not here anymore?

I know a guy that bought one he said he lost over half of his income cause of that trailer. it now sits at the yard being used to store things.....lol only being able to load shotgun really limits its use for coils alone much less backhauls take all the places that still load or unload with big fork lifts and thats a nice chunk of lost freight because of a trailer designed for easy work...now if you had local work that you could run steady all the time great. you would save time and get an extra load or two in a day. other than that i would stay away

I've seen a few flatbeds with the center of the trailer notched out in the shave of a V that I'm assuming they used to put coils in, still you're run of the mill flatbed except it had a "well"
