Ats lease

Leasing a truck from a company in general is a bad idea no matter what company you lease from

 

Unless there is an extreme need and you have verifiable experience, you will not be leased onto heavy haul. Usually, you work your way up the various classification and you are invited to join heavy haul. I'm not sure they have lease drivers in heavy haul, they may all be company drivers, on the TAPS Program or are O/O. But, don't let me stop you from asking. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I don't think your chances are good though.

 

True but when running heavy haul theres a lot more maintenance, fuel, etc, etc that goes into it. Its definitely not for the faint of heart. Yes the money is better but if i recall correctly there was a thread on here about heavy haul at ats and some loads didnt pay any better than 2.00/mile. Pulling a d/d or rgn thats ridiculous. I have the ability to run an rgn where im at. Wont touch it for less than $5/running mile. Not loaded running probably why i dont get calls for it but i want it to pay and thats for loads that could actually go on a step deck. Ive looked into ats before but it just seems like pay is a little too low for my liking. Sorry 74% dont tell me anything i wanna know my mileage rate before i even start the truck. Also theyre only paying the driver an additional 74% of the od pay? Sounds bogas to me sorry if i have to deal with the headache of o/d freight i want 100% guess thats y i have my own authority but i dont like the fact that im only getting 74% of gross. Youll pay for plates maintenance, pretty much everything but insurance and itll still be hard to turn a dime. And something tells me them trucks aint set up for the heavy hauling thatd gonna pay the best. For that youll need 550 horse, 18 gears, plus 2 speed rears and layments on that are going to be atrocious. I have a hard time believing guys actually make it some probably do but its hard to believe. Good luck with your decision which ever you choose but i would rdcommend being a company driver for a few years there and see how you like it and make sure thats what you want to do. With their heavy haul company driver rates in a couple years you could oay cash for a good used heavy haul truck of your choice and lease that on there. Thats an idea as well. Good luck driver!

Call them back and ask how busy they are right now.
I still talk with some drivers and O/O there.
5 guys I know are home doing nothing. since Dec..
Then they will say those are wind guys, but 3 of them would haul H.H. , but nothing..
3 company drivers are doing nothing also. One bounced all the way from La. to Gary,In. yard. just to drop a trl. and wait..
So see how much money you can make right now..
Remember, They will allways get their money from you first,before you get yours.. Truck payment/ fuel/ maintance etc.

My experience is pretty dated, I know, but I was able to fully pay for a brand new truck (TAP program) with ATS, back in the early 2000's. Dry van, but that's supposed to be the worst, right? And this was after Rollie retired and the "son" took over.

Of course, back then we were all going nuts when diesel went to almost $2.00/gal, I realize it's twice that now. And it may not be the same company, but at one time they were at least honest, and you could lease a truck from them, and make it to the end.

 

im doing a lease with ats and there by far the best company to do one at im in vans and yes the last month or two has been slow but its the begining of the yr flats are slow atm also but it will all pick up soon
