Ok so I got a PM this AM and as I was asking the tech about the different Oils they offered I said give me the synthetic... I then say how many miles can I get?
He says 5K... I say are you sure and he says yes 5K thats all... really... how many miles do you think I can run on synthetic?
Also I paid $255 which I think is a good deal at a TA... anyone have any place they would go?
My fuel filter was done after about 13K miles is this normal?
The reason I am asking is I have never had to mantain a truck before... yes I was spoiled...lol...
any help/advice

I run 12k on oil change usually 15k on fuel filters depending on what brand filters i use and how many microns they are. Some will only last 3-5k on the miles because theyre a better filter. Synthetics are nice i suppose i run mobile delvac personally. Stay AWAY from rotella tends to foam i run it in my cummins powered pickup and next time i change the oil in it delvac is going in that. Oil change is about right its about $200 at the local shop for that depending on the oil and i pay less for labor. But 5k on a synthetic just dont sound right at all.

It would help if we knew year, make and model.

Sorry 2004 Freightliner S60 DD 455HP -
run 50000 on my paccar with synthetic
nofilter Thanks this. -
Thats awesome... more free time... do you drop the filters? at 25K? -
If you got good quality filters and you dont do a whole lot of idling then you should be able to get 20k miles out of an oil change. A lot of idling and you probably should change the oil around 15k miles. And you should change fuel filters every oil change or more often if need be.

Without routine sampling/analysis plus a bypass filtration system synthetic oil is a complete waste of money imo. Routine sampling is a must with any oil or interval, yeah I learned that one the hard way, it's not like I was never told or didn't know though..

Invest in a good bypass oil filter, change the filter at 25 k , and take a oil sample. Only drop oil out when the sample comes back that the oil is dirty. Some doing this are getting well over 100 k on a oil change. Use same lab so they will see the history . Usually find engine issues before they become major.
