My wife tells me I think I know everything; to which I reply, "Sweetheart, I know I don't know everything, it's just that I know so much it SEEMS like I know everything."

I have an extended hood and a 265" wheelbase. I moved the hinge point back to the very edge of the roof, and put Michelin 365/70/22.5 tires on the steer axle. The tires are rated to 21000 across the axle. The springs are rated at 14400. I've crossed many scales at 14,500 (with a Land Rover LR4 strapped over the hood). I get the green light every time, because they can look out the window and see that I'm good. An added benefit is the tires wear forever. I put the first set on a little over 5 years ago. 2 1/2 years ago I bought ONE new tire. It went on the right side and I rotated the right one to the left. I just replaced it a couple months ago. Not sure how many miles I put on them, but 2 steer tires in 5 years is pretty good.

The point is that you can go well over 12K on your steers, if you do it right. That's pretty much what the Truskist is saying too. Just thought I'd add a little to the discussion. I'm with him on the extended hood. The farther the hinge point is from the wheels at the end of the deck, the better off you'll be.

Awww, FP, she's just trying to get you to lose that gut. That's a fairy tale about needing to be a walking bean pole in order to get out the doors. That's why I stopped working out many years ago...made me too hard and I couldn't maneuver that excess body mass around to do the squeeze. It occurred to me that the softer I am, especially in the mid-section, the more flexible and pliable I am to transform and exit the tight openings. After studying the purpose of whiskers on a dog/cat and how they immediately let the animal know just how small an opening their bodies will fit through...I figured it out. This is serious sh*# here, this carhaulin' zen master stuff. It's really hard to be humble after you attain such levels of black belt-like mind control over your flab. If your ears will fit, you should be able to fold up the rest of your mass and get out. Just take a deep breath and reverse the fire drill of "drop-and-roll". Now you're gonna "roll-and-drop" while holding your breath and mumbling a few expletives in the process usually will slide you right on out...or in, if you're unloadin'.

I'm currently devouring all the Pilot hot dogs and chili cheese fries and laying waste to as many Petro all-you-can-eat buffets I can stand in order to come to that weight/body mass limit when I will be able to declare just how big is TOO big to haul cars. Somebody has to take one for the team, ya know. My gene pool puts me solidly in Charles Atlas territory but I'm putting on all the extra poundage I can for experimentation just so I can help you younger car haulers out. Kinda like a Tom Hanks movie star that gains weight for a movie role. Don't let your wife trick you with her wily ways, Bro.

Eat, drink and be productive. And don't forget to give your wife a really big ol' box of chocolates for Valentine's Day tomorrow and grab a handful of them at every opportunity. And...keep in mind, if all else fails...glass breaks into little bitty pieces if hit hard enough with the blunt end of the tie-down bar or a boot heel.

LOL, well since I'm 300 pounds I guess that is why I haul large and oversize vehicle, I don't have to crawl though all those small openings. See necessity truly is the mother of invention, lol

You are most welcome, Mr SpeedLoader. It is exactly for those frail little scrawny guys, like yourself, that I do this. I want to give back to the industry that has been so rewarding to me & my good cook here @ the home 20. If you ever make it to Super-Sized Car Toter status, look for my new book coming soon from Educational Workplace Strategies Publishing Co:

I commend you for the stand you have taken against the frail & weaker that is taking over our niche market. These younger, anemic-looking guys would never be able to grab a bumper with one hand and compress the suspension, while rolling tight the chain/ratchet with the other hand. Tie-down bars????? OMG...what is this biz coming to???

    Speedloader and jonboy29 Thank this.
