Precision Heavy Haul had two separate deals with trail king, the first one was a transformer in California that nearly turned over on the supercurve from eastbound 58 to northbound I-15. Mike Poppe, the owner refused to roll over and spent big money and 10 years fighting them and won. They rated the trailer at 600K and it was properly loaded at 550K and the kingpin broke off, the deck slid off and the transformer sat at about a 45% angle till American Heavy Rigging showed up to lift it. http://caselaw.findlaw.com/az-court-of-appeals/1519646.html
The second one was an overloaded trailer that Precision probably wont get paid on. -
But it takes 15 well paid welders and mechanics 3 months to build, $100K worth of steel and running gear. How would your bank account look if you paid people to work for you for 3 months and you didnt get paid?
Trail King probably had to build 5 of those trailers to pay for that lawsuit. That took a year and a half to get back to even. -
I hate to burst your bubble, but half a million won't even get you a 19 axle trailer built.
Ask Brent the next time your in Cloud how much those big trls. cost him and his dad.
Then ask him how often Tim from Granite city iron is there welding up the stress cracks on them?? -
there is one of those BWS rgn by me haven't heard anything bad about it does the same thing there 35 ton trail kings do , there are alot of good trailers on the market these days all the AG dealerships are going to Landolls RGN because you can re hook it at a angle Jet's new one is similar and alot cheaper, Pitts makes a good RGN Rogers and Nelson are still pretty high on my list
imnuts Thanks this. -
I've got a 2012 Talbert 55 ton RGN. It's taken a number of modifications to make it more user friendly. Modifications that I think should have been part of the design/build process. First, the "Pony" motor was in an enclosed box. The exhaust was causing the motor to die. We tacked a small pipe on the muffler and drilled a two inch hole in the pony motor lid so that when closed the pipe on the muffler directs the exhaust out the two inch hole and away from the motor. Second, the expanded metal that Talbert used in the bottoms of the baskets is so big that 3/8 chain falls through and gets dragged. To fix this we cut pieces of rubber to lay on top of the expanded metal and drilled holes in it for drainage. Thirdly, they left the ends of the trough open, rendering the trough useless for any kind of storage. We closed the ends, now it's a great place to keep boards.bigyellowjimmy Thanks this.

I got tired of the chains falling through the expanded metal and let one drag for about 10,000 miles just to see how long it would take to wear it out. Never did...

I'm looking at a new Jet 35 ton RGN with a 34ft deck and 20" deck height. I've never had anything to do with one before but I like the specs and long well. Do you have any experience to share about Jet trailers?
-
owned one of there steel grain hoppers, they are a good trailer. Have not been around there new RGN it looks good and I would def. go check one out. They use to take their Alum. grain hopper and fill it full of large rocks and pull it across frozen hipped ground to try to break or twist it up. Jet is know for building a stout trailer.
