07 , would be a better choice than an 08 . That's when EPA forced the DPF, a filter in the exhaust . That caused a bunch of headaches. Try to balance the drive line for the job. That model is a nice truck. The night mare caused by the DPF drove CAT out of the market. But a important question is will you run CA? If so carb is banning trucks without a DPF in less than three years.

Did not wanting you getting blindsided! One thing on that truck is there is a kit to move the stacks to the back to help with aero. But a pretty stick truck from the factory.

All that same stuff you have to deal with too. A load pays what it pays regardless of how fast you drive it. But he amount of fuel you save in an hour driving 55 doesn't compensate for the amount of money you lose traveling less miles. If you have a 1 day run that pays $2/mi, and someone driving 65 MPH has a 1 day run, then he's gonna make $220 more in mileage pay, and lose roughly $100 in fuel cost. $120 day for 300 days is $36,000. You have all the same scales as someone driving faster, same weather and same restaurants with slow service.

The faster you can get to your deliveries the more miles you can run , the more miles you run the more money you make. Unless you don't get paid by the mike. Even then, the more loads you can deliver in a week the more money you make. Plain and simple.

LOL you all STILL don't get it.

If you're worried about getting a 650 mile load for $1,300 rather than an 800 mile load for $1,600, just ask $1,600 for the 650mile load. Hell, you might could get $1,300 for the 800 mile load anyways. And that's another factor to consider. Choose your routes better, and you will make more money. Like I said before, if you feel you have to go faster to make more money, then you're thinking wrong.

And besides, if you're always going over the speed limit, you're a law breaker anyways, and need to be put out of service, maybe permanently. Sorry to start flaming the thread like this, but you don't get it. You don't need to break the laws to make money, and if you do, then maybe you should find another line of work.

    End of rant.

most otr O/O get paid by mile. Who in the world would want to drive 800 miles across Texas at 60...oh but they could brag on about 8 mpg. saving 100 in fuel while losing 200 in mileage pay. no thanks. heres a real world example: get loaded in Tucson on Monday. get unloaded in Memphis on Tuesday evening. reload and back to tucson unloaded by friday all legal no 34 hour and NOT drop and hook, home for weekend. do that running 60..youll be at a truck stop while Im at home. how much is that worth?
