I agree that this is more of the government pushing a politcally correct agenda, never really agreed with being politically correct when common sense works so much better.

This is an old Thread, but an ongoing, ever present issue.
Calif has been trying to ban smoking in the cabs of trucks for some time now as well.
What a driver does in the cab of their truck should be their own business, if it doesn't affect anyone else.
There must be a lot of jealous government office employees, and/or officials, with too much free time on their hands.
Just like making laws that we don't need (laws from 20 years ago worked just fine). They need to find something to do, to justify having a job.
I do smoke in my truck, and it hasn't affected anyone else yet.
I don't smoke in my house, as I have a family member that has asthma.
I don't need a LAW to tell me how to behave!
Geezzz! -
just one more thing that we should band together and put a stop too,and you non smokers of which I am one don't think this doesn't effect you,it is just one more right as an American citizen that is being taken away, your turn is coming
Take a stand support the jan.3 to 8th shutdown and also the California Boycott, it your choice at least for now stand together before the take that right away from you also -
That's ridiculous.
-
I think the smoking thing is way out of hand, this is America right?
-
It all depends if you are allergic to it or not. -
Yeah, it's supposed to be America. Was last time I looked at my Atlas. (I didn't have to bring my Passport with me when I left the house.)
You know, Land Of The Free...?
Okay, if you're allergic to smoke, or just don't like it...I'll be courtious enough NOT to smoke in your presence. That's a given.
BUT, I don't need a LAW to dictate to me...no....to take my right away from me, to smoke in my own truck, my personal workplace, my space. What I do inside my truck, affects noone but myself.

police state is here.

I was a relay driver in a shared truck. The night driver chain smoked. Every morning I cleaned the truck, sprayed it, but it did no good. It just plain reeked and so did my clothes and hair. I had to take a shower when I got home to get rid of the smell and the headaches.

Roadmedic, I have been in the same situation as you. Sharing a truck with a smoker is disgusting if you are a non smoker, there is no amount of cleaning that can get rid of that smell. The smoker I drove behind was very clean, never left ashes or butts in the truck, and it was still nasty.
Personally I see a truck as an office, it is a workspace, if another person has to be exposed to that cab, there should be no smoking in it. If there is only one driver per cab, then that would be different.
