Well guys today was unoffically my 3rd haul I guess. I must say I was kind of excited due to all the advice on my last post and since reading more about what I'm involved in. Prior to departing for my pick up (ft lauderdale to Atlanta) I tried to get as much info as possible about what and how much I will be picking up so I can prepare my truck with things I might need and get a visual in my head as to how I am gonna tie everything down. That all went to #### when my logistics manage told me he had no idea what I was picking up. Ok we'll better be prepared for the worst I was thinking, I rummaged through our warehouse looking for chains, lumber, tarps, straps ect. All I found was a few 2" ratchet straps and a bunch of bigger 4" I think straps that go in the sliders? I'm assuming that's what they're called. I get to the pick up and it's a bunch big #### I was not expecting, I quickly counted the pallets or boxes and saw that I didn't have enough straps for everything, called my company explained the situation and they pretty much said I should have prepared my truck better. Well I grabbed what was available and prayed for the best.....Anyways, long ### story short this is how I ended up strapping everything and I want your inputs, in my honest opinion I don't feel safe making the trip back to florida so what should I do, talk to a flatbed driver at a rest stop or something and ask for a hand repositioning or something.....Help!!!![]()

Ohhh also another question, what is the proper way to attach your strap hooks? Through the rail? Over the rail? Hook to the frame? Hook to the rail?
-
Not a skateboarder but down thru the rail , flip up and hook. Never twisted and never a cut. All binders left side so you can see them. Straps military tight, should pick like a banjo string. Recheck straps at 50 miles for shifting and settling of freight.
Load looks good but no way to judge....what's in the boxes? What's it weigh?
Wanna talk tank now? I can help you there......

Down through the rail, up over the rail and back down to "hook" the rail. At least that is the way we were taught.
Other than putting two straps on everything, I'm not really sure what else could be more secure. As you don't have anymore straps, maybe replaceing some with chains and edge protectors? And putting the straps back on in two's for the "bigger" things.
Idk, my husband ran to the store and I don't have as much experience as he does. When he gets back if no one else has a better answer i'll get him to take a look and add his thoughts.druss17 Thanks this. -
well first off you 2 straps on the front, what is that foam board? looks like you need 1-2 more on the first stack of boxes 1 more on the last blue boxes and 1 more on the gang box,or you could use chains thru the handles and pull them toward the front against blue boxes but dont over tighten, them handles are pretty strong.but all in all it looks like you did a pretty good job and have picked a few things up here. also the straps should be on the inside of the rub rail, the DOT has given tickets out for being on the outside. because they could get cut if you rub against somthing. what is the black stuff on top?.Flat bedding and heavy haul is all I do,so to me looks like you have thought this load out some good job.

Straps not always banjo string tight. Depends on the product.
Not to get this arguement started but my straps always have a half twist in them. -
yes half a twist is a good thing, helps keep the straps from rubbing and doing damage to product. Good catch MJ 1657

Point taken and thanks .......I was taught that twisting a strap cuts it breaking strength. Instructor said strap is strongest when flat. Also said deputy dawg could ticket you for a twist under unsecured load.
Scare tactic?MJ1657 Thanks this. -
Yes those are dense foam boards, I would have used two straps on the first set like I've learned from people's response but I was short and couldn't do it but I wasn't too concerned because of the head rack. But what I don't like is the wooden boxes I have four (well eight actually if you account for both sides) sharing a strap down the middle. I would have strapped individually like the last stack but that wasn't an option....I gotta tell ya it makes me feel alot better knowing you guys say it looks ok.....the through the rail strap I have no clue just guessed, should I fix them so they are proper or leave them I have time in the morning to do it if it should be done

I try to always put the binders and ratchets on the passenger side. I can see them in my passenger side mirror, just as well as in my driver's side mirror. Then, if something comes loose, bad enough to make an emergency stop on the side of the road, my fat little butt is away from traffic, while working. Getting run over does not agree with my constitution, very well.
