If you stick with Flatbeds, become a packrat. No such thing as to many straps or chains for that matter.
critters Thanks this. -
hide them if you too,Aireal hit that right on the nose, no such thing as to much securment. keep up the good work druss17 i think you're gunna trun out just fine.
Leftlane101 Thanks this. -
Very well placed load Druss. Nice and straight and stacked. Im worried about as u mentioned those boxes they need the extra strap. Also worried about the back two straps I can see those are not commercial straps they are ratchet home depot type straps thats not good they have less strength and being placed at the back well, the tail always tends to swing with more force than the rest of the trailer.
Now u tell ur shop u picked up everything that was available to u. I would also tell them I need a T check to buy 5 more straps and throw them up. You know where. It is your butt on the line and company's also they should be able to understand that. Im really surprised your dm had no info on the load he booked thats just crazy.druss17 Thanks this. -
Nope wont fix it until I need a new clutch again or if I am in there for something else. Too much cost involved to just go after just the leak. Not major enough to worry about, 1 gallon evey 15,000 miles between the engine and the leak. Not Bad enough to do it yet!
Might leak 2 tablespoons a night when idling. -
You bet. I don't get the hideing thing though, we put our stuff up neat and tidey as possible, but the company incourages us to get extra "stuff". Not buy it ourselves, unless its needed for a load and is something we didn't have, but pick up stuff at the yards if it's their.
Druss17 my husband agrees with Critters, he thinks you will do fine. You only get experience by doing, use common sense and if it doesn't look right ask.critters Thanks this. -
i dont have to hide either I carry enough on my truck to do 2 loads, just never know that load from hell is coming and you it's coming somtime.
-
It looks fine.
I believe the law is as follows;
1 strap for the first 5' of length of each unit or stack then another strap for each additional 10'. You are legal with 2 straps on a 15' unit, you need 3 on a 16'.
If you do not have a headboard or bulkhead you need one additional strap within the first 5' of the first unit or stack.
The combined working load limit of your securement must be at least 50% of the weight of the load.
The rest is pretty much personal preference based on experience. -
Got to watch that twist. DOT wrote me a warning ticket for that and made me take it out. Said that a twisted strap has risk of letting slack in and said that it reduced the WLL. he even showed me the it in the book and it did say a twisted strap is a violation for cargo securement and reduce the WLL and fatigues the strap. I use to do it, I know lots of guys do just giving a heads up since DOT is looking for anything to get some money these days. Best of luck and good work on your load. PS you can never be over prepared in flatbeding. Id rather over strap or chain a load than to under do it and be picking it up on the side of the highway.....
Oh and i did get to see a guy the other day with a load foam sheets on the road picking up the hundreds of piece he now had on the ground. he put one strap on each stack. sure it was legal as far as WLL goes but guess he didnt think about the wind gettin under it.....Jimmbuds Thanks this. -
I ran into a problem with this stepdeck foam load. I got the second strap at the tail u cant see it. But look at the second stack sitting on pallets as levelers. The front of it had no winch and the way is sitting my straps where about 2' too short to use them. So I used my rope. 3 ropes with loop wrap around knot. I put all 200 pounds of me into the tie down. Lucky for me it wasnt a heavy load those things are light. Anyway the ropes saved my butt went thru scales and everything it was good. U just never know.
