Received a ticket once for expired insurance. It had just changed and I had both proofs of insurance in my wallet. Gave the cop the wrong one and when he came back, I showed him that I had current insurance. He said it didn't matter because he had already written the ticket.
. Anybody know if that is actual written policy anywhere or if it's up to the officer's discretion?

I agree with dirtybob. It doesnt matter how fast u were going, its too fast for conditions. U take the chance/risk if u are out in the bad weather. Prime example why I take Hwy 30. Sometimes u lose when u gamble. If u are gonna fight it, get attorney. The way u speak on here would only HURT u. Get attorney to speak for u. U CAN make it worse for yourself in court by what u say and admit to. Be safe out there drivers.

These are all the reasons that I shut down and send a Mac22 at the first sign of this type of road condition.
Safety before Pride - or Appointment.
I was in a similar situation in a car once, and I slid into another car.
Plenty of room, until the car in front turns short and slams into the curb and thus blocking the road.
I had a good 100 yards to stop, but stop I could not after a rain storm and then a quick freeze with snow.
Now, if I don't like the conditions I am heading into, I shut-er-down.
I'm a coward - and a proud one. -
Jet, I would definitely look into hiring an attorney. Besides, there's the principle of the thing. It's ridiculous that you would get cited for something like that.

To the OP, did you check with your state DMV to see if it will get you points? The speeding ticket I mentioned earlier would not have gotten me points from my home state of PA but i didn't want Cali opening up a jacket on me and have points there, that's why I fought it. Running entertainment I have no choice but to go to Cali, didn't want a problem.
Lexmark, I had a similar situation probably 10 yrs ago in Jersey, where they are ball busters on Insurance. I forgot to put the new card in my car, all I did was bring both the old and new cards as well as the declaration page from my policy and showed it to the prosecutor before court. All I had to do was stand up when called and he explained to the judge that he was satisfied I was insured and the judge said good evening to me...
