Never had a lockup like that, but I have experienced slow redraw when the detail level is set high on older Garmins that I still use. I haven't explored the settings on the dezl, but I'll bet you'll see better performance if you take the detail level down one or two notches.

Not a whole lot of settings as far as detail levels go. The highest is "most" and for the most part, all it changes is the color of the surrounding back ground so not sure what detail it is supposed to be displaying at that level. All levels of roads from small surface streets to interstates show on all the levels under map detail. I'll try a lower level anyway and see if that affects the screen refresh any and report back.

Small correction to my last post. Map detail goes from "less" to "more" with "normal" the middle and default setting. And I am still experiencing the issue with momentary redraw freezing- happened this morning. I did speak to Garmin CS about it who informed this was the first they heard it but would pass it along and in the mean time to do a master reset.

Also, for those of us using or attempting to use the subscription based features- check on online for phone compatability before getting the droid app and signing for the services. These are Bluetooth push services and not all phones are compatable as of yet. My SCH-i535( this phone I am using just this moment) is one of these as yet non compatable phones so I get intermittent functionality out of the subscription services. They are dealing with this- part of the problem is waiting for device manufactorers to realease the desired protocals and stuff (so it isn't all Garmin's fault ok).

In other news..... continue to experience zero problems with poi- especially truck specific stuff- or unintended restriction alerts ( nowhere near Nebraska yet :)). I am going to order the GTM-60 power/traffic adapter for the 760 as it is supposed to offer faster traffic updates then the one already supplied with the 760 oem.

    Stay tuned I guess.

New issue to watch for. If anyone sees this.... please post. Anyhow, from Oklahoma City to Van Buren (Fort Smith) Ar, showed split screen the entire way to Van Buren. The junction view looked like the I35/I40 split there in Oklahoma City but it stayed in that screen till I passed the I540 in Arkansas. The screen would not revert to map page full screen.

Also, if anyone has has noticed, the weigh station alert button no longer pops up like the it does with 560. Was told this is a "known" issue. Yes- beofre anyone says anything- this is eye candy really and could arguebly be done without- especially since most states have very kindly put signs out on the highway for the very same reason. My opinion is just this- it is an advertised feature of the unit and thus, should work as advertised.

Once again need to stress the need to contact Garmin CS with any and all issues. They say they want input, so we need to make sure they get it. Especially since they are not monitoring this particular thread. If we are going to invest the $400.00 into this unit, then we need keep after Garmin to get it right. Something they say they are commited to doing.

I have seen both of these problems on the 560 too.

I won one of these at work.

I really like it. The Smart phone link mainly. I can make a trip and all that jazz in google maps and then send it to the garmin. Pretty #### awesome. I also like the voice commands and no longer have to reach up and touch the unit I just say what i want. I haven't got the weather to work yet though. The split screen thing has happened once but It was easily removed by touching the screen on the left side. I am pretty impressed with it but 7 inches is massive , no MASSIVE , to have hanging on the windshield. I can see eventual legislation to remove these things from the wind shield.

    @frago

Before you get any subscriptions, [CHECK] your phone compatability! Could save you some grief. Not all phones are compatable- like mine. sch-i535 Galaxy III by Samsung.

I've had mine since the before the first of the year and would definitely not buy it again. It IS built well and the touch screen works flawlessly (the reason I returned my PC Miler) but can't believe how poorly it works as a truck specific GPS. The contortions it tries to make me take to get to shippers and receivers is ridiculous, the exit services only listing Flying J, Pilot, TA and Petro is a joke (I have a FREE app for my phone that lists every truck stop in the US) and the inability to program in the speed you travel is ridiculous (I am not going to be driving 85 on TX 130) so using it as a trip planning tool is severely limited.

On my first trip with it it took me through a town (very truck unfriendly) instead of around on the available bypass. Then, when I got to the town square, figured out it was trying to route me under a 13' 0" bridge.

For $400, you should at least be able to trust what your GPS is telling you and I do not trust this unit. (And yes, I do use my atlas primarily but there is a lot an atlas can't show either.)

If I had it to do over, I would've just bought a car unit and saved $300 as the truck specific functions on this unit don't work nearly well enough to justify the cost.

    Couple of things here.

Yes there are a couple of preconfigured buttons for the Pilot and Flying J- but if you go to the [where to] page and press the [truck] button, and then press either [all trucking] or [truck stops], you will see a whole lot more then the what is in the four preset buttons. I suppose Garmin decided that these are the most popular t/s and prefigured searches for them but they are not the only truck-stop POI in the database. As for your navigation issues- the first item to check is your profile settings and after that, your avoidences. You also need to make sure the unit is in truck mode and not car mode. Having said that, sometimes bad routing is due to old or missing map data which unfortunately, most devices suffer from at one point or another irregardless of manufacturer.

Having said all that.........consider the following.

With the top devices, there is a learning curve no matter the brand and Garmin is no different. These are not designed to be used straight out of the box and I think, especially after talking to one driver this morning, that this might be one of the problems some drivers are having with the devices. There are parameters to be set which may be unique to your driving style and type of equipment. If these are set wrong, the user will get ratty data and poor routing choices.

Download the complete manual but really, don't be afraid of the device. You're not going to break by going in and exploring all the menu items and pages. Worse thing is you might have to reset the device to default settings. Do not use straight out of the box!

    changing lanes..........

    Update regarding redraw issues.

With the Map detail set to normal (the default setting) still experiencing map refresh issues but not as frequently as before with the map detail set to "more". Next step is to do a master reset as advised by Garmin and then possibly a re-installation of the current software. I'll comment on that as I get it done. Running a load with lots of time on it this weekend so got a good shot of doing the master reset at least.

On the routing issues I agree and disagree.

For one, they've done a great job of noting restrictions based on profile entries. Bridge clearances and weight restrictions have been on point for me.

A glaring fail is that Garmin gps doesn't recognize a local delivery and work around the thru truck restrictions appropriately. I think one of the recent updates made my 560 more aggressive about thru truck restrictions. As-in, it will put you on a goat path more quickly to avoid a "no thru trucks" main road than before. Leave your routing turned on and drive the sensible, trip plan route and the gps goes nuts with new truck restriction warnings every time you "miss" it's recommended turn off and recalculates. That usually compounds the stress of navigating thru a congested area that you are already dealing with.

The gps isn't smart enough to know a good truck route. The logic is very simple: to route the least miles inside a local restriction. That can put you on some crazy routes. If there is a marker to avoid (truck restriction for example) it will send you directly to the first opportunity to get off that road. Which, incidentally, is usually worse than where you are in the first place due to even more limited data stored on local streets. If you make the mistake of following it, you quickly find the gps also does not have the detailed data to know whether or not your dimensions will fit thru a given "turn." Or if that local street has low hanging trees or wires. Or is paved. Or cars parked on both sides. And so on.

My favorite example of this so far, I was making a pickup in Tyler, TX. There is a thru truck restriction and the shipper was inside it, on a side street off the main route, surrounded by residential. After electing to pass on a few gps-directed turns that were clearly not favorable for a 53 footer, I realized I'd nearly completed a circle. At that moment, fortune smiled upon me and an unobstructed grocery store parking lot appeared on my right. I stopped in there and checked my phone map. I was < 1 mi and one turn away from my shipper. I had looked at it on Google earlier and it seemed a simple path so I didn't bother doing a manual route. Lesson noted.

There is absolutely no substitute for actually planning a local route with a real map or shipper directions. If I get the slightest hint I'm being led into a pickle, I have no qualms about throwing the flashers on and pulling the yellow knob for a minute so I can look on a laptop or phone map and validate my route.
