I'm about to complete my CDL course at the local community college and take the CDL test. I've been doing well and I expect to pass easily. I will go for haz/mat and doubles/triples just to cover my bases. I already have a passport and I'll probably get a TWIC card for giggles. As I start filling out applications I want to make sure I get the full picture on any potential employer.
I've scoured this forum and others. I think I have a pretty good idea of what to expect. It's time to jump in and get my feet wet.
I've narrowed down my list to 5 carriers I want to apply to. Based on the feedback here, the CSA scores support their good reputations. But one company had worse scores than the rest and is still pretty well regarded. Is that a red flag?
Any input is much appreciated!

CSA scores are very important to the carrier and the driver. I'd stay away from the company with the poor reputation as it will damper your abilities to keep a clean record. If the D.O.T. or the M.T.O. are watching out for this carrier, and inspecting their equipment more often, and you are driving one of their trucks, then you also will be under the microscope.
chalupa Thanks this. -
What BASIC has the bad score? And what company is it?
-
Most companies wont look at u if ur csa score is above 50...
-
no it is not as the csa can go against a driver/company if a mud flap is a bit torn/"defective",for getting caught not wearing a seatbelt, brakes not being out of adjustment,as in not putting you OOS yet not passing an inspection due to long vs.short brake chambers (within specs) and on and on.
things that are not unsafe can garner an unsafe mark.the seatbelt should go against the driver only yet it does not.click on the inspections/violations and you'll see what i mean.not having logs up to date yet not being put out of service is another example which should not hit the company but it does.no ticket written yet the points are still assessed.BIZARRE criteria overall. -
I'm hesitant to say as I really don't want this to turn into a Company B is better than Company A pissing match. Suffice it to say that I culled my list from ones that are frequently discussed here.
I should clarify that I overstated the "really bad" part of my original post. Gonna edit that. -
Since he doesn't even have a cdl yet, he wouldn't even have a csa score.

Bad part about this whole thing is when you get a good inspection, many of the DOT officers are not following up with a report. They are also only giving you warnings which cannot be taken to court for appeal but they still affect your CSA score. 5 times have my paper logs been reviewed, but the only time a report was issued was when they found something spelt wrong. They counted this as a log violation, wrote me a warning and sent me on my way. I got the points, the company got the violation and DOT had 1 more bad log violation to help them tip the statistic to show many drivers cheating on paper logs.

it still goes in the system when you get inpected even if you pass,it's a silent ata boy. being creative is an art J FROG. csa scores for new drivers is a case of not bieng taught the right way or not stressing enuf of what it takes to do right.

Apparently you missed what I said, I'll repeat. Many of the DOT officers are not following up good inspections with a report. They look at your logs, see no errors and send you on your way. That is not the way it is supposed to be. You should be getting a written report from them either way, good or bad.
DOT is only doing the reports when they find something, thus tainting the statistics. At least that's my experience with them . It can't go into the system without a report.x#1 Thanks this.
