Hey Matt39, Welcome to this site and welcome to your new life-style....Yes, LIFE-STYLE, It's just that in a nut-shell. Once you get started in training, then out on the road it's kinda tuff at first, not being at home for alot of reasons, Wife/Childeren/Friends/ETC. but it really gets easier(on your end) when it comes time to get back in the truck, because you will grow to miss the road, just about as much as you miss all that you love and miss at home. If one can keep a good balance of on the road adventure and quality time at home, you can make it in this "Life" they call Long-Haul Trucker.

I would like to thank everyone who has replied! It is extremely appreciated that you all have taken time from your schedule to respond! The wife seems to be overall on board with the decision. She hates that I will be gone, but realizes that we need the money at the same time. I worry a little about her because she has the tendency to work overtime (type A) and I don't want the kids to be home alone for extended periods of time. She has stated that she will start leaving work on time and working more from home. Of course she is on salary, so none of it results in extra pay for her. bucksandducks thank you because I had not thought of substituting on the off weeks! Good way to bring in the extra money and still have time with the family. I haven't spent much time thinking about the future aspect of running the 7/7 more just on the present and all the challenges that it will bring. A lot of me really wants to go for it, its always been something I've wanted to try.

I've always heard hometime fleet drivers having a second job while home. I works for alot of drivers. I was in the same situation. Low pay job previous, needed money and decided to do the hometime fleet bc my daughter was recently born. Hated to do it but had to make ends meat. After 9 months decided to go a different route and roehl was flexible with doing so. So it's good you can fit your needs whichever way.

Ya I tended bar a little, worked part time for a fire department, and cut boughs for Christmas wreaths. One guy I knew had a bunch of rentals and tended to them on his off week. Another sold real estate and there was two brothers that had a farm. One week one would drive and the other would farm. Then they would switch. You are "supposed" to log any thing you are compensated for as on duty time. Roehl told me as long as I took a 34 hour break before my tour started I was fine. That way I would have a fresh 70 hours.
