Well, I've looked local, and without that extra 1 and a half months under my belt nobody will consider me for local. May has been telling me they don't have a truck available for me due to the fact they have so many students soloing out. (Apparently its more important for May to hire in new hires than experienced ones since they're cheaper?) So I've been trying to find another company that has a drop yard closer than an hour and a half to my house, (N.Bay area above San Fran), but no luck. Got a bunch that will hire me, but I'd have to take my truck home with me. That's not an option. Oh, of course there's Schneider, and I believe maybe Interstate, but after having a couple friends work for Schneider, I'll pass there. And even though Paloma is very happy with Interstate, if I'm not mistaken, all their trucks are automatic, and Freightliners. I dunno what it is about the freightliners but I much prefer a Peterbilt or an International. Oh sure, I could always take on another company and just plan on my first 'hometime' being after I hit my official '1 year' mark, so just stay out for 2 months and then quit. But if I'd like to think I have better work ethic than that. I REALLY need to get back to work soon!
Unless any of you have any suggestions on another company to try?
UPDATE: May called me back this morning. they say they won't have any trucks available for a minimum of THREE MORE weeks! That's the same thihng they've been saying for over a month now!
Out of options

you have no truck stop or secure place that will rent you space near where you live?
-
Closest place is in Sacramento, and last time I checked, I believe it was either $30-40 per DAY to leave the truck there.
Website says $12 per day, but last time I was there I know it was at least $25 per. Or at least that's what the Own Op told me it was.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Check with System Transport, Petes with APU's. Terminals in Stockton & Bloomington.
Watkins & Shepard, terminals in Modesto & Santa Fe Springs.
Interstate Distributor, Freightliners with choice of auto. or standard. Yards & Terminals all over Northern, CA.Last edited: Feb 18, 2013

Thx China. I'll look into them.
Anyone know about Kelle Transport? KTS? They're got a yard in Stockton and they seem pretty good. -
seems to me your more fussy then wanting to work
i can do anything for a few months to give me more cloutjomar68 Thanks this. -
Not fussy, I just don't want to make a bad decision again and end up only working somewhere for a few months and have it look like I'm a job hopper. I should've just stayed with May rather than jumping over to drive for that owner op. If I were to go somewhere for only a couple months and quit, that would make most new employers look at my work history and think that I wouldn't stay there long either! I mean, if I were to take a job with another company and then decide after 2 months to quit and not care about the work history part of it, when it comes time to quit and their terminal is in UTAH, and I'm in California, I'd end up having to drop it there and find my own transport back home rather than risk an 'abandonment' on my record. And THAT would definitely not be good.
I really did want to go back to May, but it seems as though hiring more newbies is more important to them than having experienced drivers there. Shouldn't suprise me as though I was trying my best to still have faith in them as being a good company.. -
The no trucks for 3 weeks line probably means they don't intend to rehire you...
-
Starting to see that. The owner Op I drove for is good friends with Kyle there so I wouldn't be surprised.
Just wishing they wouldn't have told me that they HAD gotten me approved for rehire! Serves me right for taking the word of a recruiter I guess.. -
Im happy at Interstate as an Owner/Op.
Interstate was bought out by Saltchuck 2 years ago. They are getting rid of those older Freightliner Columbias with Auto Trans and are being replaced with Freightliner Cascadias, Volvos, Kenworth T660 and now International Pro Stars .. All with 10 Speed Manual Trans (I would prefer 13).
Also, you need 1 year for Interstate, a friend tried being just 2 weeks shy of a year and couldn't get in.
Its a changed Company.Chinatown Thanks this.
