I spent every summer break with my dad running coils to Georgetown, scrap from Columbus, slag from LTV and OS to Detroit. I loved being in the truck and it's all I ever wanted to do. Drive for that farmer till I graduated high school, then went to ASU.Gtaduated with my master in criminal justice After being a LEO after college for a year I decided to turn wrenches at Peterbilt. After that, I realized I could make more driving them than working on them at the stealership. Bought my 1st truck with cash at a Penske auction and been out here since then.
My grandfather started driving in 1936 at the age of 16 transporting casing to Remington Ammo to help support the war. In 1938 he enlisted and drove all over EU and Italy with the Army. Then he came home and was put to work in Alaska with the Army building the pipeline. After that he went back to AR and worked for Consolidated Freightways and then moved to AZ where he finished out his time working as a AZDOT highway man. He also dabbled in the EJE and NYPA railroad somewhere in between....his old stories amazed me and made me want to come out here even more.
Back in the day . . .

AH , YES INDEED MY BOY , I REMEMBER WELL.
I went to the Bingo Dunigann , filled up and showered then came out from the shower and my steak was waiting for me. Later was major disappointed when i went across the freeway to Panty hose Jct., it was not as described but did have good pie. I got my Alderado Panty Hose Jct. free coffee stickers for my 4 stanley thermos's Remember everyone had a echo box and rodger beep but me. lol but my little pc 33 uniden would reach out over 100 miles by turning it up to 25 watts without a linear. And the little green book was called the jb hunt manual back then. -
Any body remember the ITA white light crowd, and the "business channel"
-
yeh every co.'s drivers had a certain channel they'd go to get off 19 and talk company stuff or whatever.
Remember being nosey and spinning the knob to find their channel before I had scanner.
I'm glad this thing got bumped, I never read it before. I feel old now.Midnight Magic and HwyPrsnr Thank this. -
