Wow...shear ignorance!It's truly pathetic that you are blind enough to support this kind of malpractice and willingly submit to it with the expectation that everyone else should. But I guess I shouldn't complain that uneducated fools like you are the reason I can buy a pizza for $10... You'd probably also tell me prison isn't really that bad of a place to be either... Fools who submit to the wills of corporate bottom lines are one of the many reasons the progress of humanity is withheld and guys like you become further enslaved, clearly without even realising it... Don't know if any of you guys still monitor this thread, but I have been pulling PJ's for 9 months now out of Pittsburgh. I feel your pain. The hours and route wear a man down quickly. I am in the process of trying to find an alternate account. Cardinal treats me fine, but this account is a disaster. PJ's won't even let Cardinal fix the problems when they try. Down fall of dedicating service I guess. Half at the mercy of whom ever you are dedicated too. I'll be happy to give you my thoughts on this account, but for the most part it isn't really illegal. Maybe a bit grey, but not fully illegal.

How does a team run out of hours, or one driver not get their rest
lets see, I drive 11 while co driver sleeps.. we unload then I go to bed for 10 while co driver drives 11
one of you should be rested at any given point...isnt that why they started doing teams to begin with..
seems like someone is not properly managing their tiime...
but HEY i could be wrong -

Sedian hit it correct. While I am in my "10 hour break" I am still expected to unload. Stores are between 15 mins and an hour and a half apart. Now this is where I say it is grey. If I refuse to unload on my break, I doubt anyone would attempt to scold me, however, the job description tells you home every other day with weekends off. If 1 driver only unloads while the other sleeps, the routes go from a 20-36 hour route and become a 42-58 hour route. I know this cause I have run some solos when we had call offs. Again, not illegal without some blame on the driver as well. So I say it is a grey area. I would NOT have taken the job if they advertised out for 5 days, home weekends. The company knows what we do, and as long as our logs read like DOT likes to see, no one speaks of it.

So if one guy unloads 7 stores while the other guy takes a legitimate 10 hour break, and then the other guy wakes up and only does 4, it becomes skewed. The runs are NOT built with driver's hours of service as a consideration. They have a system that takes the pieces and dynamically assembles a route to get maximum cube on each trailer. So, they are different every time.
Driver's bury stops as off duty to make it work on e-logs. They also drive on each other's e-logs to make a nice tidy trip for the office people. And the office people are fully aware of what is going on, and it is expected that you will turn that trip as fast as possible, so they can get the trailer back because they need to wash the trays and they need to reload it.
If I ever hear of a Papa Johns truck being involved in a fatal fatigue related accident, trust me, I'm going to step forward and sing like a canary in a coal mine. Call me a snitch, a rat fink if you want, but what they are doing ( and so far, getting away with ) is blatantly illegal.
The drivers are accountable too. I shamefully admit that I did it in the 11 years I ran for them, but towards the end, the suits just wanted more and more. More loads, more cube, more stops - more abuse.
I went to the doctors having pains in my chest in 2004. My ex-wife ( she's an RN ) said at the time, "You're just exhausted, dipwit ... plain flat out exhausted."TST65 Thanks this. -
Absolutely correct smooth. I have served 9 months and am not willing to go another 9. I am actively seeking else where. Some of our drivers have been doing this for 6+ years (before cardinal got the account), they are apparently better suited for it than I am. The turn over on this account is outrageous, but easy to understand when you've done the job. I will find something that better suits me and let the others have fun with this account. I personally do not whine and cry, so I'll say it is an experience that I will not revisit. I made decent money, but weather it is worth the beating I took is up for debate. I am out in Ohio today running one of these loads, but there won't be a lot more from me.
