Non DOT employment history

    You need to put down the last 10 years, BUT, the truck company only needs to verify the last 3, as per the Feds. However, some truck companies will verify up to the last 5, even though it isn't required. newbies coming in to the industry at age 21,22 etc obviously won't have a 10 yr history, unless you count their morning paper route.............

    Ive been a mother of five kids so my employment has been on and off again. I don't have a steady 3 year work history. Will that be a concern of mine to get on board with a company? I am just now applying for school. I hope this will not hurt me getting a job!

    I certainly hope not, with the way the economy has been I just can't see how a company can justify holding a persons recent history against them. From the age of 15 to 33 I had 2 jobs! Unfortunately working in an economy dependent trade, I was laid off repeatedly numerous times from 2003 to 2007. Since then I had to take temporary jobs or whatever I could to make sure the kids had a roof over their heads and food on the table. At the time I was not all that concerned about how my history looked.

    Thats pretty much how I feel Barchetta. I got laid off last year from a company that relocated. Two of my most recent jobs I was laid off for goodness sakes. The economy is difficult and now I am seeing gas prices going up. I'm fixing to voice my opinion on politics so I'll shut up now! LOL

    Some just call to verify, others go deeper. My current company just called a former employer and were happy with that. One I'm currently going for is using a background check company that is calling me for W-2s and pay stubs that I don't have about that same job. Just depends on the company really.

    I have similar concerns about showing my employment history. I've been living in a foreign for the past 3 years and verifying my employment here will be sketchy. Prior to that I was self employed in the US and will probably, be able to obtain business banking records. I had a Nevada State Contractor's license (2006-2010) I have an Honorable Discharge from the USN (1983-87) a clean CLD that I haven't used since 2001, and no criminal history. I want to team drive with my wife.

    They need 10 years on file but they only verify 3 years. If you are unsure about dates, tell them that so they wont think you are hiding something. If there is a period of time that you weren't working, you need to put that on there so that there are no gaps and just put unemployed.

    As far as younger drivers who don't have 10 years, they should just put school down for the years before they started working.

    Actually, they are not required to have a complete 10 years of employment history like everyone seems to think. By law, a company is only required to have the information from jobs at which you operated a CMV during the last 10 years. There is no regulation that states they need to know every job you had in the last 10 years. It's a companies choice to request 10 years of all employment, not FMCSA.

    For me I needed to have 3 letters stating what I did in those gaps to verify I was doing something! I was very busy in the gaps I had, but from what I understand they need you to be working at least two of the last three years. I could be wrong. I am very new.
