You can come out at the end of the 8 in the sleeper and run the balance of your 11 & 14 combined when you started the 8 hr sleeper break.
Then 2 hrs off in sleeper or off duty allows you to run the balance of 11 driving hrs. In other words if you drive 6 then take 2 more hrs off you'd be able to drive 5 more hrs.
It's important to remember that your new 14 starts at end of the first 8 hr sleeper berth if you do that.
The other thing to keep in mind is the balance of your 70 hour clock when calculating these numbers![]()

... And thats why I don't do the split sleeper thing .. Too much hassle.
platinum Thanks this. -
so, i wont ever get a full reset in that way? i thought once the 2 was complete it finally actually reset the clock >.<
so i just wouldnt get a new 11, say I drove 4 hours after the 8, so i wouldnt have 11 after the 2 hr break but just 7 hrs right? -
That's right. You don't get a full 11 reset after the 2. Why would you?

The 8/2 provision really isn't that hard once it clicks in your head. It's actually a pretty useful deal depending on what you may need to accomplish in a given situation. If you have an EOBR just write down the remaining driving and 14 hr time when you go into sleeper berth. Set your alarm to wake up right before 8 hrs and watch the computer itself recalculate the numbers and compare it to what you had available when you went into sleeper berth.
Tom Williams at Brooks does a really good job of explaining the provision. Problem is that in trucking school or in orientation noone wants to look like the dummy so they don't press the instructor on how it works or they end in the heads with a complete misunderstanding of how it works, like Blue

i think i get it, basically you are starting a new 11 after an 8, but you arent getting ALL of it, so you are like borrowing some hours lol if that makes sense
then when you complete the 2, you get the leftover of the 11 that you didnt use before the 2... right... hmm.. lol
math! i used 5.5 hrs yesterday, stopped, did 8 hr, now I can use up to 5.5 which i only needed 4 to get where i was going. I take my 2 hr, but now that 4 comes out of my new 11 and now i just have 7 for the day... right? lmao -
Call me if you want. I'll pm you my number

If the 8 hour break comes first, you can only drive up to 2 hours, if you have 2+ hours left on your 11/14 before the 8 hour break, before you HAVE to stop for a 2 hour break.

Once again, if you have 5 hrs of drive time and 6 hrs on your 14 when you go into the 8 consecutive hrs of sleeper berth time, you can come out and drive 5 hrs in 6 hrs. Then when you do the next 2 hrs off you can drive 6 hrs in 8. I don't know how I can make it any simpler
If Efon is saying you can only drive a maximum of 2 hrs after the first 8 hr sleeper berth no matter how many hrs you had left when you went into sleeper berth status, he's just plain old wrong
-
Also, it's important to remember that when utilizing the sleeper berth provision you MUST do thr 8 consecutive hrs in thr sleeper berth first.
