Just bought one of these cheap on Ebay. Thought it would be cool to have an old school base added to the radio room. Does anyone know if this radio uses a 4 or 5 pin mic? Was considering looking for an upgraded mic for it but haven't received it in the mail yet to know exactly what it takes and can't find it anywhere on google... Muchas Gracias.

most radio shack radios used the 5 DIN jacks, not the 5 pin jacks. elelctronica_1349944611.jpg not the small jack of course.

It is a 5 pin DIN plug. Wired as follows:

    1- Shield
    2- N/C
    3- Transmit
    4- Audio
    5- Receive

Thanks. do other CB mics come with these connections or do I have to look into finding some kind of adapter to make it work?

Adapters exist but often are loose and not very well suited for rough road conditions. Myself I would find a shop and get a DIN plug installed on the mike. Of course this is a base so the adapter idea may not be a big deal. Search fleabay for one.

10-4. Anyone ever used one of these radios? Got this one and a htx-10 10 meter radio for a good deal yesterday. I'm pumped.

There are some other CB's that used the Realistic style DIN plugs on the mics. The JC Penney 6204, Cobra 20 plus, Maxon MCB-30, all come to mind.

I can't say I've seen any adapters for the Realistic mic plugs. If you know how to solder, and have a soldering iron, you could always take a typical Cobra mic and solder on a Realistic mic plug.

Or....you could always swap out the TRC-431's mic receptacle to the typical 4 pin Cobra style, if you know what wires (soldered on the rear) are what and to where to solder them to on the new receptacle. I recently did this on a TRC-459 I recently acquired.

You have a license for the HTX-10? Or planning on getting one?

I've had my license since 2010. I've started really liking 10 meters. Looking to eventually get a 2 meter to make it complete. Had a kenwood TS-2000 but sold it.

I prefer doing the dedicated plug myself but I have a Realistic DIN to Cobra 4 pin adapter I use every so often on my bench. The quality is fairly good. IIRC I think I got it off fleabay. Usually those models have a chassis mount plug with right angle pins soldered to the board. Combined with a thick lip in the plastic faceplate it's a real pain to mount a 4 pin chassis connector and run wires to the board since the nut to hold it cannot be used as the depth required is too great. On more than one ratshack I have had to use epoxy to mount a chassis connector to the front face (in the hole, looked nice but tedious work) and run wires to the board the socket was removed from. Every once in a while someone has a Navajo or something and want all their radios to use the same 4 pin mike. I think I vote for the adapter found on fleabay unless He has a shop near to have the plug changed. If you have good soldering and little parts mechanical skills, changing the plug not too hard. Is why I posted the pin-out info above.

Ahh...good deal. I just asked b/c I was hoping you weren't thinking of trying to set the HTX-10 up for CB use...not that I care if you tried, but word is they're a PITA to do. (probably why the Magnum 257 exists lol) Bummer on the TS-2000 I have one and they're nice rigs, albeit pricey. Good luck on the 2 meter rig, good thing is they're common and not as expensive as some of the other rigs, namely the 70 cm ones.
