Therma Cat and DCL make good units. Installed about 20 of each. Therma Cat is CARB approved, not sure if DCL has one with CARB yet. I installed 2 field follow units for them, not sure what happened. Both companies are in Canada

I heard on Kevin Rutherford's show (for whatever that's worth) a guy bought a Fitzgerald glider with a pre smog engine, knowing he had to install a DPF retrofit. He lives in and runs Ca. End result: compliant truck, .5 mpg. loss.
One's decision should be based on $$. Does my truck profit enough $ to offset a $20k investment just to go to Ca. and suffer a .5 mpg. loss? Not to mention any collateral problems with the system.
Myself as the OP would like to hear from anyone that took the "plunge" and installed the retrofit. It's not like we're installing a set of LRR tires, that's a proven deal.
$20k is serious money. -
We have been researching the ideal retrofit for our truck. Looks like volvo runs their own line, havent called the dealers on it yet, but also aftermarket options are out there. Primarilly only installed thru shops in cali, do your research. Manufacturer names to seek out are Donaldson, Johnson Matthey and Clean Deisel Tech. You habe to run you truck on a heat test awhile to determine if you can pull off a passive system, much cheaper. If you dont hit the temps required by CARB then you are forced into semi and active systems....way more costly.

Donaldson has actual muffler units that start around $7K installed... It seems that you can self install and they claim to send the placards and docs with the unit, not a total nightmare.

I have the Cat SDP figured out. Have 2 running everyday, ash model gets reset each time you hit the regen button, ecm now uses back pressure to fire burner. Since there is no restriction burner never fires, I have plugged fuel lines out at ard head just in case. Now comes the hard part, I am fitting an aftermarket passive and playing with the burner, when I get it to work next comes the EPA. I am trying to get dpf maker to work with me on this, no luck so far. Data log a SDP going down the road and see how much fuel gets thrown out the window building the fire in the ard head. Big fuel savings if I can get this right.
