Unloaded last night and drove back to the shop in Louisville for a another load. I didn't book a load yet due to the truck needing a service and a coolant leak inspected.

Our mechanic did the oil change, serviced the A/C system, and adjusted the brakes. As soon as I tried to back the truck out of the shop, it didn't feel right. The auto would lunge slightly backwards, auto would go into neutral, repeat until I got out the door. Hooked to the trailer and went for the interstate. I couldn't get the truck over 35 mph. Transmission shifted as it should, but had no power. Owner was afraid the turbo went kaput. The truck is a '07 386 with a ISX ifyanknowwhaddamean :biggrin_25525:

Mechanic suspected the new fuel filter was at fault. He replaced it, but nothing changed.

Then, as I reved up the engine, we heard a clunk. As I revved the engine up and down, the cluck would always happen at 1100 rpms. We couldn't identify where the clunk was coming from.

Off to the Peterbilt dealer. On the way, the truck would downshift on every slight hill and keeping 60 was pushing it. Got off the ramp, went to take off from the light and the transmission wouldn't shift out of second. But it would shift manually. Then I get a code "F" on the display. The transmission wouldn't shift nor would the engine rev. Shut it off for 2 minutes. Restart and it shifted normally to the Peterbilt dealer.

I don't know the transmission designation, but it's a auto 10 speed with a clutch. Clutch was replaced 6 months ago.

What do you think the outcome will be? :biggrin_25511:

Thought it could be x y shifter, But u said 35 that means it already split into the higher gears, could be a tranny sensor. Disconnect the batteries for like 10 minutes reset the computer and see if that does anything.. its a 3 pedal get it changed to a 10 speed standard

It's a 2 pedal. It all started like there wasn't enough power hence the 2nd fuel filter change.
I doubt if it's a tranny issue as I never go to the pickle parks:biggrin_25523:

    Ruthless Thanks this.

    Wow..19 speeds :biggrin_255:

This is my first 2 pedal 10 speed. For the most part, I like it. It's much easier to talk on my hand held cell phone while driving surface streets.

You know that you can't legally talk on a hand hold a cell phone while you're driving the truck, don't you?

I hated the Ultra-shift 10 speed I had, it was in a 2006 Columbia, that I would do anything to avoid being stuck in another, but the lease/rental company isn't buying any more, anyway. They have had enough of them, too.

I can run across an intersection faster then this bobtail, but I like it when the truck is loaded. I would love to be able to program the transmission to engage the clutch sooner, downshift sooner when climbing a hill loaded, and to be able to start out in a higher gear when unloaded. It always wants to start out in 2nd gear in D or manual.

I only drove a Freedomline for maybe 3/4 of an hour to bring in my load when the truck I had was disabled by a deer hit, that was much better than the Eaton, in my opinion, on all counts, but it didn't happen; those trucks all left within a couple of months. Repairs killed those things

With the Eaton, if you slowed for a light and the light changed back to green, sometimes the blankety blank thing would almost stop and then lurch, you never knew what you were going to get, crossing an intersection where cross traffic had the right of way was an advenure, it might take off and run, or it might sit there until that car 1/2 mile away was too close, so then you had to brake and that wasn't smooth, either. Stop and go downhill was horrible, only way to do it smooth was to coast in neutral, and then you had to stop completely to put it back in gear: with the manual, that is really simple.

Like I said, I really loathed that piece of crap. The programming can be changed by someone who knows how, but it costs money, something no one wants to part with on a used truck that is basically just another liability until someone else owns it.

The dealer said the idle was 750, but is supposed to be 600 and downloaded a new Eaton program into the ECM.

They couldn't tell me why the transmission wouldn't shift nor why the ECM derated the engine power.

"Something to do with the electronic engine control" :biggrin_25511:

I had better bring some motel money on my next trip.
