I have the 655 I got for Christmas from my wife. I like it alot best radio I've ever had. You run D band for CB radio channels. I don't use roger beep and only a little bit of echo or talk back. I use a Wilson trucker 2000 on the air line hose bracket on the back of the cab. Shielded coax on 2013 Cascadia day cab. SWR is never higher than 1.5 on any channel.

You need to get your SWR down to 2.0:1 or less or you will risk damaging the radio. Check your antenna. Make sure it's the right antenna for CB use. Make sure it doesn't have water in the loading coil. (if so equipped). Make sure the antenna is not shorted to the truck. Post pics of your antenna set up.

Then check the coax and make sure it's not shorted or pinched.

Are you going off of the radios SWR meter? it's always best to buy an external meter for SWR checks.

Your radio has a freq. meter. make sure you're between 26.965 and 27.405. That's the CB band. Anything else is not the CB band.

Anything 28.000 on up is 10 meters-don't operate there unless you have a license.

Keep the AM-FM-PA switch to AM. If it's on FM the others might not hear you.

Have you had the radio converted?

You can hear intelegence but not understand it. If its has the option for USB or LSB don't use either. Lol. Those are side bands. As in single.

I might be wrong but I don't believe the 655 is a single sideband rig. An export, yes. That's why I mentioned about ensuring the radio isn't on FM.

The 955 is the SSB radio 655 AM/FM only.
