Is that Connex 566sb a decent cb?
Been thinking about getting a new radio and like the looks of it and that it's CB and not 10 meter radio.

I don't know but I do know there's a review done on it: http://www.cbradiomagazine.com/Radio Reviews/Connex CX-566SB/Connex CX-566SB SSB CB Radio.htm

I don't think these reviews are worth a whole lot unless you test several radios. There can be quite a bit of variance between identical radios. (That is why you need to have any radio checked by a competent technician even new out of the box!) I doubt if there is any performance difference between this radio and the Galaxy equivalent. Probably have the same parts in them. The review was well done however.

Ok thanks for the replies. Might look into one sometime this spring. Just looking for something flashy but functional. Right now I switch between a Cobra 29 LCD (2011) and a Cobra 148GTL (1993). The 29 has been peaked/tuned, the 148 I've never done anything to, but my dad gave it to me in 2008, not sure if its ever been messed with or not.
Speaking of, ran into my dad driving south the other day on I-57 when I was heading north. Was able to communicate clearly for about 6-7 miles on the 29. Is that good, ok, or bad? -
That's good, especially if you're running the typical trucker fiberglass antenna that's usually only 3-4 ft. long.
-
Running a 4 ft firestik.

My favorite radio to run in the truck is the Connex 3300HP. Right now I'm using a 5ft Skip Shooter antenna.
-
Provided you're running barefoot and not running an amp, then yes you're doing good, since those antennas typically don't tx/rx that well. The antenna makes or breaks the radio. There's other factors too that play a role in how far you can get out....how high the antenna is up, SWR, terrain, if skip is rolling, if the truck is in the mountains, etc.
-
No amp, just a peak/tune on the 29. My dad has one of those Wilson antennas with the little beer can looking thing. Those any good?
-
Either a wilson 2000 or 5000. Both get the job done pretty well. I run a pair of wilson 2000s into a General Washington. SWR 1.2.Treefork Thanks this.
