I have a 03 mbl c12 is it normal for the boost to very from 20-28 psi through the whole time while climbing a grade in 9th gear? It doesn't pull in 10th much at all. I can barely keep a 42k load going 70.

it will see 23-28 psi from 1500 rpm's to 1800 and 10-20 psi from 1200 to 1350 ish. It just seems like the tune doesn't allow the turbo to lite? I just wonder if its a bad turbo because I don't have boost leaks.

So If it is ill go ahead and get the pdi turbo and tune instead of just a tune.

Check the turbo mounting bolts too. We have 2 C-12's and both of them had the turbo's come loose several times, we ended up double nutting the mounting studs. May not be your issue, but an easy check.

It's mounted just fine. I can hear the turbo spool sounds different after 23psi. It kinda screams. It's not over boosting but more or less seems to boost creep to lower boost and then peak again. It's like it's designed not to run full boost all the time.

Kinda seems like it spools up and it gets too hot and the bearings slow the impeller speed down.

That really doesn't sound like a bad turbo to me. The turbo itself is a pretty simple device that doesn't really have intermittent problems. The waste gate could be acting up, but it sounds more like a fuel problem to me. Possibly a restriction somewhere, like filters starting to plug up? Before I condemn the turbo, I'd find someone with Cat ET to go for a ride with you to see what's going on when the boost surges like that.

It only does it under load and I have new filters. I suppose my buddys shop can check fuel psi

Doesn't sound bad to me . Sounds like leak or lack of fuel

I would suggest checking the solenoid for the wategate first. These engines have an electronic wastegate set up and can have issues with functioning properly.

The best way to fix it is reprogram the ECM with a earlier C-12 file that eliminates the wastegate from the programming. This will advance injection timing, improve Hp and throttle response, while increasing fuel mileage. You also need to replace the stock muffler with a Donaldson M100463 for a much freer flowing exhaust set up.

    I'll send you a PM

    dude6710 Thanks this.
