New guy, need advice

    I'm a new guy to the trucking industry. I've always wanted to be a trucker, however, I suffer from a hearing impairment. I've been hearing impaired since birth and I've recently found out that you have to pass the hearing requirements in order to be a trucker. So my question is what are the hearing requirements?

    just a standard hearing test,do you wear hearing aids? i have seen drivers that do,talk to the recruiters and ask they should be able to help you out .Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

    A couple of years ago I thought I barely passed a hearing test for my DOT physical . Worried about passing my next physical I had my hearing tested and the doctor did say I needed hearing aids .
    Went I went for my recent physical the doctor said "You didn't have hearing aids the last time . Did you damage your hearing ? "
    I explained the situation . I didn't want to fail the test and be disqualified because you can't get hearing aids overnight . The doctor suggested I pass the test without the hearing aids . I did and I passed .
    To address your concerns if you have hearing aids there is simply a box on your medical card the physician checks that says "Requires Hearing Aid "

    If you can afford it, get a DOT physical on your own, then if you pass, apply for a trucking school.

    It's that simple? I was worried I might have to go through this long and tedious testing procedure just to have them say no. I appreciate your story. Cleared a few things up.
