Ok, "Riddle me this Batman". I'm in my local commercial DMV office taking my 5 tests to get my permit to drive while i'm in school. Which I pass, Thank you very much!
Less than A block away is a Knight trans office with several banners around the building stating "Hiring drivers now". My wife suggests we stop in there and get some info, Nothing else, when we
re done at the DMV. NP, I say dutifully. Just in case WHAT I REALLY WANT falls thru. JUST getting info. Everyone get the picture?
Well first off, We enter and we can SEE AND HEAR the people in there. They can see US. They just keep talking among themselves like we don't even exist. NOT about anything important, mind you, fluff stuff, office politics. No "we'll be right with you", No "just a second", nothing! After a couple minutes of this, we start to leave and a "recruiter", who shall remain nameless to protect the IDIOT, FINALLY says "hi, I'm so-in-so". So, I say "Hi I'm___ and this is my wife____ . I'm CURRENTLY in school and we were driving by and saw your sign about hiring drivers. So we start asking all the questions that are pertinent to us. Do you hire drivers out of school? Wheres your training? Etc;... the usual things that a person should ask a prospective employer.
After 20 mins of talking to this brain surgeon, we can't take anymore and we say "Thank you for your time, we'll look your material over". We go get in our car and the FIRST words out of my Beautiful Southern Wifes mouth are; "There's NO WAY your driving for those idiots!!!" God, I love southern womens subtilty.
Again, how can you talk to a recruiter for 20 mins and ONLY find out 2 things??? #1. They only do dry vans and reefers. #2. Our insurance REALLY isn't that great. 6 mins on how crummy their insurance is ( timed by a clock on the wall, because by this time we're getting very frustrated by no real answers )
So, The moral to the story is, If this is how you treat a prospective driver JUST ASKING QUESTIONS, how would they treat you once you've signed on the dotted line. My experience was unbelievable. I won't bore you with the rest. I'm sure there are great people with Knight, but based on my first hand experience yesterday, "there's no way I'm driving for those #####'s"
Just my personal experience. Nothing more. Do with it what you will.
:( Experience with local Knight office :(

I just realized something, and I KNOW someone will ask!
The 5 tests were GK, Air brakes, and Combo's in order to get my permit. PLUS doubles/ triples and tankers endorsment's. In Nevada ( I don't know if this is across the country) you can't get your HAZMAT until you've got your permit and then you call an 800# to get that rolling.
That was the 5 tests, just to clarify. -
I'll venture a guess.....your conversation with the recruiter was more joshing than actual facts. Like, where you from dude ? Oh, really. My sister married a guy from ******** just down the road. Hey, what do you think of the 49er's ? blah-blah-blah

If you feel that strongly about how you were treated why don't you send this information to their HQ in Phoenix rather than put it on a forum where nothing will happen. Just my .02
-
Were you there?
Pretty much. It was the most amazing thing!

I wasn't treated BADLY. I'm putting this info here for OTHER drivers to see. That's why it's a forum. And #2. If the office manager was there and never stepped in to correct it, what would be the possibility that their HQ would actually do something? Again, he WASN'T the only one there. And NO ONE stepped up to offer different and more complete ( if I've worded that correctly ) information.
If I was the office manager or not and watched one of my employees "give the run-around" to a prospective employee, I would gently step in and TRY and correct the info, ESPECIALLY regarding the health insurance. It may not be perfect insurance, but "this is how it benefits you!" But that's ME,and no one did. -
Good post on your first impression..
Leftlane101 and All-American82 Thank this. -
The Reno yard is a small warehouse that just happens to have an office in it. It's good you put it out there, I'm just saying send the info to them. Maybe they are unaware they have a malcontent up there.All-American82 Thanks this.
