The recruiters job is to know all the info and answer any questions you may have. All the other personnel in the office are dispatchers and planners and possibly one safety. It really isn't part of their job to do a recruiters job. The Terminal manager is there to over see the terminal itself and probably should have intervened in this situation. All of our terminals are independent from each other so the Vegas office is different from Reno. Also yes all we do is dry and reefer. Its a shame that a driver can give you more info than then the recruiter can.

As I said, I had heard MOSTLY good about Knight around here and was interested in what they had to say. But my first impression was not good. Very unprofessional. As you said, it's their job to know things about the company. Don't refer me to the website. I'm standing in front of you.

In all fairness, and anyone in trucking knows this, Your not a prospective employee until your handed the keys and dispatched. Up until that point, it's one steep rollercoaster. Its the same sham as when people in school get excited about "pre-hires". You can get a pre hire just writing down your address..

These mega grinders hire recruiters off the street who have no clue about trucking or the driver's job. They read off a memorized script. They should hire only ex drivers to recruit and dispatch. Not clueless newbs.

Being a former driver doesn't make it any better. The best dispatcher I ever had was a girl who nvr set foot inside a truck. One Of worst and most incompetent ive had to deal with was a former driver.

Give me a break. Yes it does. It's very frustrating teaching a dispatcher who is clueless about trucking. Your job is to drive safely not babysit and mentor your dispatcher.
Well that's strange as my best dispatchers were ex drivers. A girl who was my dispatcher once (non driver) thought I could make it under a 12' 6" bridge. Or she didn't even know what log books are for and though I could drive all day and night. -
Ok whatever floats ure boat.... Everyone has a unique experience... Just because it isn't your experience doesn't make any less credible.

I have had several since I started with Knight. My first was a none driver dispatcher. He actually did a very good job for a none driver. My second was ok. Third was ok, forth was a complete disaster. fifth is a former driver/safety/dispatcher. Best by far. Its good to have someone who is experienced but also has good planning skills as well.

most companies are like that when you walk into the door. best thing to do is look up the numbers on the net and call recruiters, BUT FIRST, ask on here because the drivers here will tell you better than recruiters do and the drivers here wont lie to you to get you in a door somewhere...
think of it this way, what do the drivers have to loose by telling you how it is on here .. NOTHING ... what do the recruiters loose... MONEY ....
it was a good thing that your wife went with you, so she is taking part in your new career. but understand, she will be home at night and weeks at a time with you on the road. can she deal with that... if she cant then get out before you start... trucking is hard on a marriage....
but dont let one bad time at a sore knight term put you down. i have worked for knight twice and been to about every term in the country except 3 and most were just like that .. you take the good with the bad ...
as far as choosing a company, do much research before you decide ... ask on here, ask recruiters, and then go to truck stops and ask the guys in the trucks ....All-American82 and Bigdubber Thank this.
