Has anybody looked into what kind of salary and incentives a person can make working as a driving leader? (DM or dispatcher, whatever their actual title might be)

I've tried to look at the Swift chart. It seems convoluted with pay grades given almost like the government. I can never figure out what each grade pays. I do know a couple of DM's who've went back to the road driving. I'm guessing pay would be a part of that decision. I myself can't imagine being a multitasking dispatcher. I tried it in LE a few times and it seemed like a crazy pace to try and work at. Not sure if trucking is the same.

Yeah, I don't know if I'd be happy multitasking like they do. Curious as to where you found that scale information. I'm nearing a year with swift, and now I am trying to look at any options of making more income if I were to stay with them.

why in gods name would you want to jump from the frying pan into the fire?

if your serious about being a DL, i would imagin youd get bottom scale pay for no experience, be put in classes for 2 weeks to learn the basics, such as.. when in doubt, tell driver youll msg the planners. say freight is slow, ill let them know, most importantly, practice saying... welcome to walmart... cause youll end up quitting after 3 weeks and end up at wally world.. lol

After 32 years as an air traffic controller I cannot imagine that being a DM would be much of a challenge.

Go to the Swift website and click Training and Education. In that tab there is a button for Non Driving jobs. When you do a search for different positions it will give you the pay grade next to each one.

Don't know exactly but i was talking to my planner at Walmart she said she didn't even make $1000 every 2 weeks, I would doubt DM get much more and this planner used to be a CSR as well.

I dispatched for a few years. Started at 35k. Last management job, I was over 30 drivers for a container company. I made 50k. Too much headache and politics! Not fun being stuck in an office all day.
