really, ever talk to a western driver? Care more for their trucks than drivers? How many drivers on a percentage basis have over 20+ years with your company I can tell you we have at least 20% of our fleet with a number of drivers approaching 30 years with western. How many companies when you retire with good service give you the keys to the truck or buy your last truck back from you (even though they originally paid for it).

It cracks me up all these people who make disparaging remarks about western who have never worked for western. If you ever want to be treated like an adult and work for a company where even the owner will even take a load when freight is hot and heavy come check us out.

Western is very picky, very hard to get on with. They do want 3/300,000 minimum exp, including mtn. exp.. You will carry and be expected to use chains. I don't work for them, but run with them enough times to see things. They run Pete's, KW, Volvo 880's, a few Lonestars (think they are all gone though), they were looking at Mack's a year or so back. Last few times I've been at JBS/Swift in Cactus, Tx. there have been several of their trailers dropped down there, watched a few drivers doing swaps. Coors is their bread/butter run.

My fellow trucker,if its ego to want to drive for the best then im wrong ,or if money was the real reason ,I wouldn't be driving. You see its all the above ,I drive because its the freedom of the road, the last frontier of men who who of men feel its in their blood..No easier way to put it,its out of the love that nobody else can take away from you only you alone can,i myself been driving trucks since I was 17,but ive been around trucks when I was 13 ,I was blessed with a father who drove and gave me these tools I use to this day in my everyday driving,so yes you just expect to get top pay ,no you start at the bottom that's in anyplace that hiresand there sir is why im no ego busting want to be,im just proud of who I represent and what I do for a living ..cowboy wild..thanks

cowboy wild - is it right for me to understand that you took a job with Western? I just saw your post regarding our company (Midwest Express) you posted yesterday and I just wanted to say thank you for putting the flip side out there. I am Craig's wife and have been with him since day one in this company. I understand that this is a website that allows for transfer of information (good and bad) that is helpful to people in the trucking industry. What I don't like and don't appreciate, however, is how people can state bald face lies that they know not to be true as fact and hide behind account names. We have a great bunch of drivers that I would put up against any other companys' drivers. If you have not accepted a position with Western - come apply - I would love a chance to sit down with you and see if we are a good fit. If you have accepted a job with Western, I wish you well. Thanks again for your vote of confidence in our company!

    Zombie thread alert!!

I was looking up this company and this thread came up.

So it's zero-dark thirty somewhere in Alabama and I gotta GO! I pull into a rest area and thankfully there's a spot. Then just as I jump out a guy in a uniform and carrying! comes around the hood of this big blue Christmas light Pete.

'Oh hell,' thinks I, 'DOT is harassing sleeping trucks in the pickle park.'

(Now Ohio is KNOWN to do this, waking guys up for a level 1 and totally screwing up their HOS)

Well I want to get out ASAP. So I hit the latrine, do my business and scoot, but I pass the 'officer' on the way back.

    Waaaaait a minute, that's not a cop!

So here I am looking up USAC.

Good lord I can't imagine what it takes to get their drivers a 48 state carry permit. But I was wondering what they might be pulling so a Google I will go.

Surprised they don't run teams though. If something's important enough for an armed guard you'd think they'd pair them up. I'm assuming there was another guy in the bunk but after reading this thread I didn't see anyone mentioning teams.

It's really not a secret . They do have armed team trucks hauling mint and other valuables

And lots of drivers carry , just not always openly . Due to local state laws and/or company policy .

That "united states armored company" ,division of Western is all team trucks as far as I know
