I took a break from driving, and worked at the Air Force Base in Montana working the gates. One of my jobs was to search big trucks before they were allowed on base. Once in a while we had a K-9 out to do it.(mainley a walkaround with a mirrior) One morning we had a Older Pete roll in, and this thing looked awsome, beautiful truck. We talked to the driver while someone walked around the truck. I asked how old it was and he told me it was 21 years old. We asked the miles and he said 2.1 million. I commented on what a great looking truck it was for being as old as it was.

If you can find me a kittie that has over a millon without service or in need of service then you will win a prize. -
the truck I drove last night had a detroit s/60 gen I (1989 volvo/gmc/white unicab)
3.1 million miles according to service log - it had rotating assembly replaced in 1999 and at least 3 turbo rebuilds...
tough old block ehhh? -
i talked to a guy that had 1,296,000 miles on his kenworth

well mileage on a cab and chassis is not the question...
I guess we need to divide this into
what is the highest mileage on average per manufacturer prior to major service (not including overheads/turbos and other "external wearables)
like I posted we get a couple of million out of cranks
some of our real old yard trucks have enough hours on them to equate to 3 and 4 million miles thousands of hours of idle time broken up by abrupt full throtle shots...
I know that the last detroit I owned went 540K with no problems
I think most blocks will last nearly forever because they use sleaves and full bearings which are replaceable into the core...
in theory a diesel could run for a hundred years if the proper oil pressure and temp range was maintained...
