The ticket will be big enough to get your attention, and you will most probably be shut down until a permit is obtained.
Now, if the load is tarped, that may be doable, although still a risk for sure out there.
Just my .02, but the company I am leased to pays for permits, and I pay for tickets....need I say more?

Why would you even want to take the chance? I would bet the ticket is more than what the load pays. I hate to sound like a prick but....... I hope you get caught.

I don't get it, why not just get the permit? They might just notice your load being a more than a foot wider than the trailer. Doesn't seem like it's worth the risk considering that I'm sure the ticket costs many times more than the permit.

Aren't you supposed to wait in the staging area for an escort across the bridge? If I recall the lanes are kind of tight to start with, and an OD load really should be escorted. Have one of those NY/NJ drivers hit you and then you'll really find out how much it costs to not have a permit. They'll do it on purpose around there.

the ticket usually goes by the inch, so if you had a 9.8 load...subtract the 102 inches wide ( trailer) so you are aprox 14 inches over size giving you around a 250. 00 or better ticket, which they will mail you.

Goes on the record also, so say if you get popped in another state someday they can pull it up on your CSA and there you are with your crank in your hand and in trouble again.
