Mail Hauler, like any other government employee, they are exempt from the law.

But what I really want to know is,,, HOW'S THE PAY!?!

The US Postal Service sets the pay for each run.
The mail contractor i used to drive for it worked out to 21 to 24 bucks an hour to the driver.

Absolutely untrue. HCR mail contractors have NO exemptions and run under the same rules and regulations as any other carrier. The pay isn't half bad for a non-union job. Some HCR contractors are union some aren't. The thing is they are under pretty stressful time schedules and we're judged by how well we keep that schedule.

Hi, how stable is hauling mail? I have heard usps have cut their saturdays deliveries wonder if that would cut down the number of runs my husband's doing, all is fine for now, just worried coz we are planning to get a house.

I heard you submit a bid on a lane to get a contract.

Then I guess if you win you go to Ryder and rent some trucks and hire anyone with a pulse to fill the seat.

You have a start date. Usually 6 months out . Start lining up equipment and labor . Was a good niche years ago. But we got out of it when people started REALLY low balling bids! One went for half our rate? Got out in 94 . Don't think things got better there.

A lot has changed since then. You're right, things haven't gotten better. Lean is in and not too many good contracts even come up for bid anymore as anyone who has one is holding onto it if they can cause if they let it go out for bid it WILL go cheaper than what a contractor has been doing it for.
