All long-haul is done by contractors and has been for a LONG time. Metropolitan areas is a mix of Postal and contractor with Postal losing more each year. There's talk of even contracting out yard jockey duty within Postal yards.
Funny thing is when we need a driver there's no need to advertise. Make phone calls to the ones near you, the closer you live to one the better. If you're near a relay point you know of that will help as well.
Who are these mail truck drivers?

Could you be a little more specific (sorry if i sound like a newb)..... do you mean like call shipping and receiving (i actually live 10 minutes away from one in oakland ca) How do you differentiate between relay point and yard? (im almost certain the one in oakland ca by the port is a yard, but not sure)
-
No, call the contractors. Get the names off the trucks and do a little digging for their contact info. We get calls all the time and sometimes someone gets lucky and calls when we're looking for a driver. Those with the greatest chance of getting hired have already been mail haulers and thus require the least training.

A lot of long runs are relayed so if you happen to see trucks at a truckstop switching out everyday somewhere you'll know you're at a relay.superpet39 Thanks this. -
