I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I need a little advice

I was thinking of doing the Dollar General dedicated through Werner, seemed like good money (if anyone can confirm please let me know)
HOWEVER, their regional and OTR pays pretty low (.26-.28 cents per mile)

With USX, I know they have the sliding payscale but even at the lower end they still pay more or about the same as Werner
Benefits are about the same with both and cost about the same

Not sure about USX vacation pay. I know Werner it is an average of what you make. I'm looking to stay a year or a little more for experience. Wanting home time about every 15 days

So the question is, which do you think is better? USX regional, Werner OTR or Werner dedicated?

OTR pay as well as the miles is very low, don't drive otr with Werner. If companies actually gave drivers the miles they deserve then the low pay would'nt be such an issue.

i HAVE BEEN AT THIS TRUCKING GAME FOR 24 YEARS NOW. DRIVERS TODAY MAKE MORE MONEY AND GET LESS MILES THAN WE DID WHEN I STARTED OUIT IN 1989.I STARTED OUT AT 21 CPM AND GOT 3500 MILES A WEEK AND STILL MADE SAME MONEY DRIVERS ARE GETTING TODAY AND SOMETIMES MORE. SO
MONEY ISN'TM REALLY THAT MUCH DIFFERANT NO MATTER WHAT COMPANY YOU GO WITH. IN MY OPINION I WOULD GO TO WORK WITH USX THEIR DRIVERS SEEM TO STAY LONGER AND ARE ALOT HAPPIER. IF YOU ARE JUST STARTING OUT IN THIS CAREER FIELD GET THE OTR EXPIERENCE FIRST THEN GO REGIONAL. IHAVE NOT TALKED TO MANY WERNER DRIVERS THAT WANTED TO STAY.

you've been doing this for awhile.Anyway I drove for Werner for 3 yrs, mainly to get the exp.But the miles are just not there and never will be.Too many drivers they keep hiring which means the other drivers then have to sit.Werner is swap and split happy which explains the low miles.Heard usx is'nt too bad if you dont mind autoshifts.

    w4cdw,

I have some info on Werner from my research in starter companies. I spoke with a recruiter and I was told about the Dollar General account. I was told it pays 30 CPM and is 100% unload. I don't know about unload pay. I did not go in to further detail because I was no longer interested. I also know that they did not build the Dollar Generals with semi trucks in mind. I would hate to try to get in to some of those places!

    the original back again,

"Work smarter, not harder!"...Sounds like the perfect motto for the trucking business. I have always followed along those guidelines. I also remember seeing a Werner truck in the ditch at my local Dollar General. That kind of swayed my decision also lol.
