Ok it has been updated so far. I'm really glad everyone is pitching in. Semi Crazy, I know you are just poking fun but please poke fun at everyone and not one certain company. I don't want this to turn into an argument on what company is better or which company secures loads better etc. I want this to stay informative not argumentative. I do like your pic in your signature. Priceless.
Auctioneer Thanks this. -
WLL does not double anytime,,if it's rated for 5400 then that's it,,if you proof ask an DOT officer.you can't do any thing to increase that.
Steeleandsonfarms and 379exhd Thank this. -
any other questions?
-
BL, don't ever be embarrassed to ask,I am a firm believer in the only dumb question is the one not asked, that's the one that hurts you or worse.just ask that's what we are here for.
diesel1985, jdmredneck33 and BulletProof Thank this. -
I don't think he emplied that it would double, only that a strap rated at 5400wll is good for 10800 of product weight. I had to reread what he wrote, it was a little mis-leading when you first read it.

Boomer - chain binder
V-boards come in many different lengths and styles (wood, plastic)
Steel tarps- usually 4' drop length
Dunnage- lumber used to brace a load, most common is a 4x4 that's 8' longjdmredneck33 Thanks this. -
I think what he means is that the CARGO is 10,800# and he only needs 5,400# of securement for it??? Maybe he just got things backwards.... I dunno

Yea that's what I ment. that's why I HATE the securement laws. they give me a 5400lb strap, but that 5400lb strap when used as an indirect tiedown can be used to secure 10800lbs of cargo. It's easier for ME to simply double the WLL when using indirect tiedowns to figure out how many straps I need. I understand what critters is saying the WLL doesn't change at all but I can use a 5400lb strap to secure 10800lbs of cargo when using indirect. Now that I've confused everybody a little bit more with the way my mind works. Sorry for the confusion.
This is also why I have the little calculator and a load securement book. They confuse the hell out of me. Heck before I became a truck driver I used bigger chains than I ever had too. 6 1/2" chains on an old farmall that only weighed 9500lbs loader included yea a wee bit overkill could've broke 2 of them and it still wouldn't have gone anywhere
critters Thanks this. -
As SCH stated and I wasn't clear on you're correct working load limit is never doubled. But when using a 5400lb strap as an indirect tiedown I can secure 10800lbs of cargo. Sorry for the confusion. I simply double the 5400lbs when using them indirectly to figure out how many straps I need. Although you're correct and I should've worded it differntly the WLL will never change on the strap unless your winch is only rated for 5000lbs. but that's a horse of a different color and a major pita when your winches aren't stamped with a WLL hope dot don't get to looking at the winches on our wilson because the stamps have worn down so low you can't read the WLL anymore
critters Thanks this.
