Hello out there! My name is Kim and I will be attending orientation on March 11 for USX in Shippensburg, PA. Can anyone tell me what its like there? How hard that "duck walk" test is? Whether or not they still use all automatics? Very nervous about going. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :biggrin_25525:

I have a friend from trucking school who recently went through there (or was planning to), about a month ago. Trying to get in touch with him; if I'm successful, I'll find out and let you know.

Could be all wrong, but, I thought it was TransAm with the all-automatics(?)

The duck walk test is nothing more than squat down as low as can go and walk or waddle(lol) approx 53 ft. its supposed to be like trying to walk under a trailer. I used to drive for u s xpress its like any other company out there it has its good and bad points. the shippensburg yrd is in the middle of no where. meaning that there is nothing in walking distance. when i left in 2011 they were just switching back to all sticks. Also being in the ship.term you will more than likely get stuck with north east runs. Make sure you have all the paperwork you might need cause your just preapproved till you make it through orientation. They were falling alot of people for kneck size when i was last there too. Any gaps in employment you need to explain and anybody that you think will give a hard time about ref check take copys of first and last pay checks with you. and to your post or atleast i belive it was you on facebook...yes they do get you down there and can try to send you right back home. and some they didnt buy tickets back home for. i can try to answer any more questions for you if youd like. yes they left a bad taste in my mouth but i still wount slam the company completely. good luck to you on march 11th..

The duck walk is only about 4 feet, not 53.

NoCoCraig, they might have changed it a little by now but when i did it, it was the 53ft cause they had a trailer in the shop right next to where i was doing the test.

First time I have heard that one. The purpose of the test is to make sure you can get under the trailer to do your pre-trip and make sure the kingpin is locked. Absolutely no reason for what you are describing. I have talked to a lot of drivers and they all have had the same test we took.

What do you mean by kneck size. Are they beginning to only accept based on body mass index?

That is a new one to me also. I have never seen or heard of anyone at USX having the neck measured

I've never heard anything about neck size or the duck walk ever being 53ft. Not sure many would make it if it was that long. Had one big guy fail that walk, but a couple others made it all the way through. A couple of my students were bigger guys and they had no problems.

Don't be put off by the Shippensburg terminal. It's not the nicest one. It definitely does not represent the company as a whole.

    Good luck.

    Just did it!

The duck walk is a rope 44 inches high, 4 feet long.

Squat down, bend forward, head and back can't touch, hands can't touch floor, waddle forward 48 inches.

My recruiter Kimberly told me to practice it at home and I could do it after a few tries.
