Hi folks, I recently had a in frame done on a N14 Celect (CPL1844). After the rebuild I am using a gallon of oil every 3,000 miles. Also fuel mileage drooped from 7.2mpg to 5.1mpg. Before the rebuild I was using a gallon of oil every 5,500 miles. Truck also lacks pulling power. When I idle overnight I have about a 6" radius puddle of oil under the breather hose and the air reeks of that awful blow by smell. I am also getting a ticking noise at idle on the passenger side of the engine, doesn't sound a like exhaust leak. When I accelerate I am getting a loud chattering noise from the drivers side of engine. I have 15,000 miles since the in frame. Dealer told me this is normal after a rebuild. So whats your thoughts? True or false?

false i dont think the rings have seated or sealed or whatever the correct word is on the blowby and smell. i have no idea what the noise is maybe compressor or accessory drive.

Not normal. Mine ran just like it should from the moment we started it up after the o- haul. Wonder if one of the rings got broke putting it in. Did they use cummins parts or after market

Sounds like the shop is telling you this in hopes that you will keep driving it and the warranty (if any) will expire without fixing it. You should take it back and speak with manager. If that does not work keep going up the chain of command. I would call cummins and see if you can get this resolved before it is to late. Keep taking it in and bother them if you have to get it solved.

Yeah you have a problem there. You should not be using any oil or finding puddles and no noises. Get it fixed quickly before you have a major issue.

Hows your oil pressure? engine temp? EGT temp?

It might be a loose turbo charge air cooler blue hose for lack of power or low mpg.

Oil leaking might indicate a higher problem. Did they run overhead after done? Do you have any "color" smoke on startup, reving or deceleration?

Oil pressure is 35psi at 1500 rpm 20psi at idle. Engine temp 175°f, EGT 300-600°f on a hard pull 900°f. Yes overhead was ran and I am getting no smoke.

The noise is most likely the overhead was done incorrectly that would also explain the low power and fuel milage drop, also the worst thing you can do is idle a fresh motor i drive everyone i overhaul hard if your. Idling for long periods then bump the idle to minimum 900,the oil problem sounds like either glazed liners, damaged rings,or incorrectly positioned rings
