I do oversize every week with a auto transmission. Elogs also. So does the rest of the forty trucks in our fleet.

I don't see what the problem would be with an automated transmission with OS/OD. Read an article in a truck magazine that was about hauling logs in the bush in Sweden grossing 150-200,000lbs with 750 hp D16 Volvo's with I-shift transmissions.

He wasn't he's just an idiot, he was scared of snow water night, and he left Sacramento at 8am I left Sacramento at 2pm I passed him before he reached the border of UT/NV. He always cried about everything so he was let go within a month. He never made one delivery on time and he had 10000 story's of "with central we" with central we did this" but he made more money here on 1 month then he did in central the whole time he was there the only thing was schedule was tighter then central

so true on autos if you never learn to drive a 10 speed transmission driving the automatic first will handicap you for quite some time

As I said I have no issue at all with e-logs. I think they are a step in the right direction. I just hear a lot of people kicking and screaming about them. It's gonna happen so everyone may as well accept it. Perhaps you should have read what I wrote a little more carefully. And again, I'm not trying to get in with "the big boys" or anyone else. And I am just a lowly student and not a "super trucker" like you clearly are, so I am taking my time to learn everything that is being put in front of me so that when I DO get out of school I can be a safe as possible and comply with the laws.

But this whole thread was for new drivers, and was my opinion on the new rules and regulations that are coming out, and to communicate to other new drivers to not fear the gears if they don't want to drive automatics.

Sorry, I just can't see the issue of cameras in or on the truck as a question of civil liberties. So many drivers have this neanderthal notion that no one should have the right to interfere with how and when I drive my truck. Now if they want to put a camera in my house or backyard, yea....I protest and resist. That would definitely interfere with my personal rights and liberty. But the fact is, my dear colleagues, we are not just individuals driving trucks around on the highways of America, we are engaged in public commerce on public highways and driving vehicles that can make a major impact on public health. Society has a right to set certain standards for safe operation and to have reasonable enforcement of those standards. If cameras both protect the public from dangerous drivers (and we all know they are out there), and protect the driver who is in an accident at which he/she is not at fault, then....bring em on!

That simply is not true, they record all the time, when a event happens it marks a time slot from 3 minutes prior to the event to a few minutes after the event, this makes it easy to find and also keeps the system from overwriting that file. But bottom line they hold about 160 hours of video nd audio, the safety department can pull the sd card and plug it in and watch alot more than the event. If it did not work this way it would miss the evemt that they claim to be the reason for the camera. The company I work for is adding them, Ive been here 11 years no accident and have told them the day they install the camera is my last day.

Here is my 2 cents, not that it matters much. If you are a company driver and your company chooses to install a camera and/or elogs even without a law deciding they need to be, than that is fine because; the company has that right just like you have the right to leave. The problem is when you decide to leave and become an O/O and there are no more rights left. It is quite obvious that the megacarriers, government, teamsters and many more groups would like to end the independent driver status. Take for instance the new proposed laws in New Jersey and Washington that essentially singles out O/O's. So what happens when everyone just lays down and takes it like good little sheep? More avenues of freedom are restricted.

Listen, I am not about us against the government but the last time I checked, we the citizens pay their salary and as such, I expect more for my money than what we are now getting. Yes, we need to protect the environment, the public's safety and many other issues but it should never be at the expense of the average Joe. We need O/O's because of the independence, their combined resources to stand up for each other and their dedication to what our country was founded on; FREEDOM! Once you accept the status quo, than you are no longer maintaining a free society but rather a dictatorship.

So go ahead and simply accept what is being crammed down your throats simply becuase you feel that is it and there is nothing you can do but when that day comes that you finally get tired of all the bull, your rights being taken away, being told when to sleep, for how long and when to drive for how long...then maybe you will remember back to the day when so many of us kept saying fight while so many of you all simply said "it is going to be this way, get used to it".

Remember, there are groups that are fighting for our rights and as long as they continue to fight, so should we instead of bending over and spreading your cheeks without a question of why.

OK, my rant is done...blast away!!!
