I'm sure some places use CH9. I've seen some cops here have CB antennas but I'm almost positive they're hanging out on the local channels to just to be nosing around.

True Mike, that yes until you dial in the other guy on a single sideband radio, he'll either sound like Donald Duck, or maybe Alvin and the chipmunks. And true trying to dial someone in on a single sideband radio while driving can be annoying. That's why I prefer a rig that has a stable sideband like an RCI or maybe an older Cobra 148/Uniden Grant. Now you know why I'm not too partial to Galaxy sideband rigs for mobiles....you'll spend the next 10 minutes playing with the clarifier. Not much fun.

It's possible Murph, those bricklayers think of it as their own channel. The only time I've heard anything other than mexicans on 9 was the time I was on I-64 somewhere in KY I believe. I heard 2 truckers on there yacking away. I had a Midland compact that I figured how to wire one of those insulting keychain toys to the radio's mic audio wire...long story short I keyed up over the truckers with the voice of Mr. T saying "shut up fool!". Pissed them off. :biggrin_2559:

All the ones that have CBs in our area run 19.

I miss my HR2510 for that reason as well.

The local fire dept. in my home town monitors ch9 sometimes... BTW, the Rock haulers in my area run 26.735mhz (ch 19 D band) to get away from the noise, and some of the guys i talk to are hard to hear, so i sometimes we to 19a (27.195mhz).:spam1:

i have noticed that some states will tell you when you enter that the smokeys listen to xx channel on the cb so that way you can get ahold of them or they can get you in a trap lol. most of those states Ive noticed are more out east though
