I have a 2003 Freightliner XL Clasic with a Detroit series 60, for the past two months I have noticed white and blue smoke. When idleing normal alot of smoke comes out. when I run my RMPs higher smoke goes away. I have taken it to diffrent people and they tell me diffrent things are wrong with the truck. If any one has had the same problem and has solved it please let me know. I dont want to spend a lot of money on something that may not be the problem.

Turbo seals would be my first guess and are easy to check - look for oil in the turbo outlet tube. But, as has been stated, could be a lot of things.

I had a Series 60 in a bus do that, which is unusual for a Series 60. I just assumed the engine was tired. Only after idling, it would smoke a puff of gray/white smoke on take off or revving the engine up.
If you ever look at the CAT ACERT C13's, you will notice they smoke the same thing on start up. Not all, but most that I've seen. I wouldn't worry about it. As someone said, have them check your turbo out. If you aren't using coolant, getting decent fuel mileage, I'm sure it doesn't take much oil to make things smoke. I'm not a mechanic, so go talk to one. -
White smoke is sometimes anit freeze leak, keep a eye on the coolant.

Hi check there is not water from exhaust white smoke can be head gasket or turbo, blue rings, black filters, no smoke engine is off wow sorry about last one
Rideandrepair and UncleMeano Thank this. -
driping injector at idle is very common, white smoke is most likely the complaint with blue hazing, after rev injector pintel seals back and smoke clears.if no power loss under load condition just keep eye on it,if power loss occurs more than likely injector or 2 should be replaced.
Samuelh, Rideandrepair and aiwiron Thank this. -
The white smoke means that they picked a new pope
Lucky12, Lepton1, TruckRunner and 8 others Thank this.
