They take it from you by paying you less than you'd earn working at a different carrier. One way or another, you pay for it.

I was a Marine for 8 years got out in 2011. Dont listen to these guys, use ur GI bill. It will use $6000 of it, and you wont be commited to a terrible company for a year or more. Because once you use that company, and you dont like it you are sqrewed. USE IT!!!
Apply apply apply, I went to TMC first. Great training and a slew of different freight so you can get exp with different types.

DO NOT GO TO A COMPANY WHO PAYS FOR YOUR CDL SCHOOL USE YOUR GI BILL. THE MAJORITY OF COMPANIES THAT PAY FOR YOUR SCHOOL ARE JUNK COMPANIES MADE FOR IMMIGRANTS WHO DONT SPEAK ENGLISH. A GOOD COMPANY MAY OFFER TO PAY YOU BACK FOR YOUR SCHOOL IN SMALL AMMOUNTS.

use ur gi bill... what rainy day are you going to have to where the 6000$ will prevent you from doing anything else you want with it... better then being stuck with a ###### company for a year. or if you quit 1 day before your "year" is up BAM your going to have to pay it all back. If you have the means to pay for it do it.

I would rather be out 6k that I "realistically didnt pay for" then drive for a company that pays 28cents to 32cents a mile. longs layovers and sitting for hours or days waiting on freight.

I would recommend against becoming beholden to the company store.

    Use your GI Bill,...

If you really want to get into a truck, think if you even want to become an O/O.

If you do, consider doing this instead.

Use 2 years of your GI Bill and get an AA in Business admin. THEN go get your CDL.

You have now set yourself up:
    1) you have gotten your reckless 3 years behind you.
    2) you have a business background to better become an O/O
    3) you still have a NEW CDL
    4) you have a long and short term goal to meet and the means to become an independent adult.

Just food for thought is all.

Who knows, you mind find some hot college coed and decide you'd rather settle down.
