May want to get some rubber belts for the rack also, found out the power belts from a quarry worked better for me since it never wore out, also need to get some coil protectors so when you chain down you do not crease the eye metal.
-
Explain where you put the rubber belts please. Interested in what size belting I would need.
I have thought about putting a couple pieces in by side boxes. I've had a couple times where I would like to have a couple pieces down to protect my deck and for some metal on metal securement.
I carry some of that thick felt I got from a steel warehouse. Will that work for chain protection? -
When you build the crib it starts out with the metal racks, wood then the rubber is placed perpendicular to your wood or saddle it in depending on the coil and rubber. felt is good only for soft protection IMHO and personal experience do not trust it as coil protection. I even use a cheater bar on ratchets when I hauled coils, would cut like butter into the felt so it was found.
Did a search for it and found a few picks that are a primer for coil loads, plenty others here have hauled more than I have but we all do things a bit different so this will vary.MJ1657 Thanks this. -

Thanks. I get these coils frequently. I run a dedicated gig and I only do coils. All of them tarped- even this ugly one was LOL!
aiwiron Thanks this. -
If you put chains over the top of shot gun coils, that felt works really well to protect the coil.
inside the eye, I always used steel chain protectors.aiwiron Thanks this. -
Never thought of doing that, always used straps myself and mud flaps as my sticky for strap protection. But now you mentioned it I have seen chains over the coils with some type of protection. -
Covered wagon guys do that alot of times cuz tougher for them to run straps I suppose.
SGTSmokdU Thanks this.
