I always thought the Good Buddy thing was lame, especially in modern times, being based on a 70s country song.
I never ridicule anybody (such as the audio shop mentioned above) for using it when it is obvious they have no idea it is some obscure 40 year old reference. If anybody is offended by it, or actually thinks there is an implied implication of homo, it just shows where their mind is at.
For example, if some non trucker uses it because he saw it on a trucker movie, there is no need to get on their case for it. Context is everything. -
